  1. Best way to mount remote linux disk on Windows10?

I've set up a linux file server at home, and want to give my father, who has a Windows10 laptop and lives elsewhere access to upload and download files from it. To make it user friendly I'd like it to be mounted (ideally automatically on boot) as a drive letter. What's the best way to go about doing this?

    1. Setting up SMB on the linux server. This should work, but sharing SMB over the internet is iffy security-wise isn't it? I know a VPN would fix this, but having to redirect all internet traffic just to transfer some files is too cumbersome.
    2. Just use sftp (which I already have as part of ssh). I think Windows10 doesn't support sftp mounts out of the box, so one would need some external software to do this. If so, what would you recommend?

  2. Mount home directory on second disk

In Linux I can mount a (large) disk on /home/"myusername", and thereafter all my (huge number of) user files are stored on that non-system disk. How can I do the same on Windows 10?

I know I can move some - but not all - user folders/files on C:\Users\"myusername" to equivalent folders on a second non-system drive, but that requires sorting them into Windows folders, and if I try to copy a large batch of linux folders/files to Windows
that's a PITA, as they're not organized that way on Linux

  3. Trouble initializing a USB drive

I'm not clear what you are suggesting regarding the Linux File Explorer. Are you suggesting I connect the disk to a machine running Linux, and try to interrogate the disk from there?

I don't have a Linux machine. I do, however, have CygWin installed on my machine. I could try to mount the remote disk from CygWin, I suppose.

    Thoughts?

Guide: How to enable, use, and configure SLI on Linux.

I guess the next logical step would be to report on the performance you can get with SLI in Linux. That'd be my suggestion anyway.
