Beware of fake phone numbers when scammers freeze computer...

Today, I clicked on a link on Google News and got immediate frozen computer with security message purporting to be from Microsoft with a number to call. I suspected it was a scam,so didn't call the number. Instead, I logged into Microsoft on my phone and started a chat which evolved into a phone call with helpful advice on how to get rid of the message. DO NOT fall for the fake number. I was advised to turn off the computer and turn it back on. That didn't solve it, so used CTRL-ALT-DELETE and then task manager to list the offending task Google Chrome and click on End Task. Micro

I was advised to turn off the computer and turn it back on. That didn't solve it, so used CTRL-ALT-DELETE and then task manager to list the offending task (Google Chrome) and click on End Task. Microsoft was very helpful. I just want to save anyone else from falling for the fake number. And be sure you get the legitimate Microsoft website.
