    Beyond the obvious, what does the 'randomize hardware address' do in Win10?


    Obviously it randomizes the MAC address. Here's the summary of why I'm asking.In our company, we are getting calls about laptops not being able to connect to the company wifi when they previously could. The error message is extremely descriptive. "Can't connect to this network". We use a certificate based authentication system for wifi and doesn't require a password. We have looked at our network authentication system and it shows that it passed the check.Our help desk was throwing spaghetti at the wall and found that if you toggled on the random mac address, forget the wifi network, reconnect

    1. Is your device connected to domain network?
    2. May I know what you exactly mean by "the "Random hardware address" is used even for known "whitelisted" networks"?


    There's two controls for using random hardware addresses—one is for all Wi-Fi networks and the other is for the specific Wi-Fi network you choose. When you turn it on for all networks, random hardware addresses are used while your
    PC scans for networks and connects to any network. When it's turned on for a specific network you choose, random hardware addresses are used the next time you connect to that network.

    next question is...does it mean I can't change/spoof my mac address even by using third party softwareor registry editing?
