These days, marketers have more power than ever to identify and reach customers. With data, AI and automation at your fingertips, it’s no longer just reaching more people that matters to growing your brand. It’s about making each connection feel one-to-one, at just the right time and place. More meaningful, more timely, and more valuable — this is how we see advertising evolving.

We’re evolving, too. We’re changing our name from Bing Ads to Microsoft Advertising. It’s a simple shift because our clients and partners already know us as Microsoft, and many are already tapping into our new advertising products that go above and beyond search, such as the Microsoft Audience Network. Over the coming months, all of our experiences and materials will be updated to reflect Microsoft Advertising.

Momentum is a powerful thing, and we’re building on a decade of success leading with Bing. We credit our partners, clients and our fans for helping us reach these milestones: 100 months of consecutive Bing share growth, half a million advertisers with access to more than half a billion consumers and most recently, becoming the exclusive provider of search advertising across Verizon Media properties. Bing remains the consumer search brand in our portfolio, and will only become more important as intent data drives more personalization and product innovation. But we’re not stopping there.

One thing that’s not changing — the importance of advancing trust as we innovate. Adopting personalization through AI elevates the importance of consumer privacy and control. Integrating intelligent technology into the marketer’s toolkit means valuing brand safety and ensuring data security. Trust is integral to who we are, and it will always guide our innovation and offerings.

What should you expect?

In the next year, we’re introducing more advertising products with built-in AI, more connected to your data and your business. There are two offerings that showcase ways in which Microsoft Advertising is delivering on this potential: the Microsoft Audience Network and Sponsored Products.

New capabilities through the Microsoft Audience Network:

Last year, we launched the Microsoft Audience Network which uses AI, rich audience intent, and profile understanding to help marketers reach consumers in brand-safe environments. Today we are announcing updates to this offer: First, we have deployed product enhancements, including viewable impressions, image upload and management tool updates to make managing images even easier. And second, we're expanding audience campaigns to the UK and Canada later this summer.

Our clients are already seeing great results. Overstock.com has achieved a quarterly ROAS increase of 33% since they started with the Microsoft Audience Network.

Microsoft Bing Ads and Verizon Media strengthen search partnership

Microsoft and Verizon Media are making it even easier for search marketers to reach valuable audiences across the Bing Network through an expanded partnership. As a result, marketers will have a single global platform to create search advertising campaigns that reach audiences across the Bing, Yahoo, and AOL networks. All search advertising opportunities across Verizon Media properties, including campaigns on both Yahoo and AOL, will be exclusively served by Bing Ads.

This enhanced partnership will make it easier for marketers to manage search advertising campaigns. Additionally, by aligning campaigns under Bing Ads, marketers will benefit from the deep audience understanding contained in the Microsoft Graph coupled with Microsoft artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to connect to the right audience with the right message across any device. As our partnership evolves, we continue to keep user privacy and security as core principles in how we approach our advertising business.

Continuing to grow the volume of high-quality clicks and conversions clients receive through Bing Ads has been a top request. We estimate that our enhanced partnership could result in an increase in clicks across the Bing Ads marketplace for customers targeting the United States of up to 10-15%. While exact results will vary by client, Bing Ads users should closely monitor their budgets to ensure they are ready to capture these potential increases in click volume. Microsoft and Verizon Media are working to complete the full transition of worldwide traffic by the end of March 2019.

How can I disable Microsoft ads?

There are many places within Windows 10 that can potentially be the source of those advertisements, but I believe that the modification you want is as follows:

Navigate to Settings > System > Notifications & actions

Select Off for Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows

That being said, with just a bit more time and effort you can be much more thorough when it comes to eliminating obtrusive Windows 10 advertisements by implementing the following changes:

Disable Lock Screen Ads

Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen

Set the Background to Picture or Slideshow instead of Windows Spotlight

Select Off for Get fun facts, tips, and more from Windows and Cortana on your lock screen

Stop Suggested Apps From Appearing in the Start Menu

Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Start

Select Off for Show suggestions occasionally in Start

Turn Off Ads from Windows Welcome Experience

Navigate to Settings > System > Notifications & actions

Select Off for Show me the Windows welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what’s new and suggested

Turn Off Ads in File Explorer

At the top of the File Explorer window click on View

Click on the Options button on the right side of the ribbon

In the subsequent Folder Options window click on the View tab

Scroll down the list of Advanced settings and uncheck Show sync provider notifications

Click the OK button to close the window

Remove Ads From the Windows Ink Workspace

Navigate to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink

Select Off for Show recommended app suggestions

Together, these adjustments should eliminate the most prolific built-in Windows 10 advertisements.
