Windows 10: BitLocker Broke Startup

So, I recently attempted to set BitLocker up on Windows 10. I didn’t have a TMP chip so had to enable some setting to override that - if that’s relevant at all.


I enabled BitLocker from Control Panel, and set it to encrypt the entire drive 2TB of which less than 1 is used, but it’s slow, 5400 RPM, unsure of how long this would take. I set the password and I saved it to a USB using the given option. After all of this was done, Control Panel said “Restart required”, and so I did restart, and it passed my motherboard screen but stayed for ages on the Windows “Please wait...” screen.

At this point, I had no idea what to do. I wasn’t sure whether I’d have to wait for it to be encrypted fully apparently that can take days and so I tried various things in order to get in to safe mode and disable BitLocker. I managed to get into WinRE, but when safe mode started booting up it didn’t proceed past the motherboard screen. There wasn’t even a loading circle. I attempted foolishly several things from WinRE, including a reset keeping my files. None suceeded.

At various points throughout this I was prompted with a thing to enter my BitLocker key, which I did, but then it would soon show the same thing again and I was not able to use my keyboard to type my password. USB attempt froze each time. The only way I was able to enter WinRE was to skip the drive at these stages.


Anyhow, is there any way to fix this issue? Thank you.

Please follow these steps and check if that helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to start the BitLocker Device Encryption service.

Follow the below steps:

1. Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.

2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.

3. Search for BitLocker Device Encryption service.

4. Double click on BitLocker Device Encryption service and click on Start button.

5. Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to Automatic.

If the issue persists then change the password and change the settings on how drive is unlocked at startup.
