    Bitlocker - Cannot Set Start Up PIN - Command Prompt Won't take Input


    I am trying to set up a requirement for an additional authentication at start up using bitlocker.

    I have modified the group policy to require additional authentication as required. However, when I then go to the command prompt to set the pin required at start up, it will let me get as far as running

    manage-bde -protectors -add c: -TPMAndPIN

    Then it won't actually let me put in anything. It refuses to accept keyboard input. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

    Would I just follow the same steps within safe mode after hooking up to the other system?

    Command Prompt as Administrator.

    Command Prompt is already in the Start menu, it's in 'All apps' under 'Windows System'. You could pin this to start. A right-click then lets you choose run as administrator in 'More >'.

    Stop forcing us to use a dang pin.

    I think you are referring to BitLocker PIN, here are the steps you can take to remove BitLocker PIN.

    You must have administrative rights on your machines to execute this command and this requires a functioning TPM:

    1. Right click on the Start Button.
    2. Select either Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
    3. Copy and paste the two commands (get rid of the quotes)

      "manage-bde -protectors -delete C: -Type TPMAndPIN"

      "manage-bde -protectors -add C: -TPM"
    4. Reboot to ensure the PIN is no longer active.
