Windows 10: Bitlocker Drive Primary and Only partition corrupted Recovery

On my laptop I have one partition and during decryption my laptop suddenly shuts down. I come back and the it won't load my laptop. Tried reset , refresh , recovery point but still unable to recover files. I even tried commands like clean and refresh drive. I tried to create a partition and it won't allow me. The files are important to me and would like to recover it. There is no way of opening my laptop but you can go through the bios using the W10 installer that I have.

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

BitLocker Recovery

That helps a lot. The 9 GB recovery partition is large enough that it most likely has all of the data needed to reinstall Windows.

You are correct that to run

format fs=ntfs label="Windows" quick override

you type it exactly like that, making sure that you selected the primary partition in the previous step. I just confirmed that command works on a test PC I have.

After diskpart finishes formatting the primary partition, you can close the command prompt then restart your PC. Try to "Reset this PC" and check if you are no longer prompted for a Bitlocker recovery key.

 

BitLocker drive got corrupted. Methods to restore data?

I'd like to ask for your help regarding a BitLocker drive corruption issue. I am going to write down the steps that caused the problem to help you understand what happened.

1. I saved some data from a 320GB hard drive, and formatted it. It is NOT the Bitlocker drive, and it is unencrypted.
2. I shut down the computer, disconnected the 320GB hard drive, then plugged in the encrypted 1TB drive which was functioning well before that. I used the same cable and sata port as the 320GB was connected to.
3. Started up windows, and noticed the encrypted 1TB drive was being displayed as the formatted and empty 320GB drive (wat).
4. I restarted the machine and plugged the sata cable to another sata port. Windows now sees that the drive is encryped, but says that the disk structure is corrupted and it is unreadable. The lock icon is grey and there is no size or any other data present.

The drive is recognised in the Manage BitLocker Drives menu, and the drive is recognised in the Windows Partition Manager too. It reads the correct capacity, but says 'Unknown' partition. I did not do anything besides plugging the drive in and trying
to open it. The encrypted drive has only one partition.

So my questions:

Should i use the 'repair-bde' command? Or use some third-party tools? Or both? I'm thinking of buying 1-2 backup drives to make at least 2 recoveries with different methods.

How bad could the damage be? Or is it only the MBR?

Maybe the most important question above all: What caused this catastrophic failure?
