Windows 10: BitLocker "Incorrect Function" when attempting to enable on ESATA drive.

Drive D: is a freshly format NTFS drive connected via ESATA to Windows 10 Version 1903 OS Build 18362.476.


When attempting to enable BitLocker on the drive, the message below is displayed.


BitLocker works as expected with the same drive installed internally via SATA.

bitlocker incorrect function error when turning off in usb drive

hello,

I cant turn off the encrypted usb drive in windows 10 after turning it on with the bitlocker.

After im moving my important files to external hdd,i would like to turn off bitlocker in my usb 3.0 but it prompts me at incorrect function when attempting to turning off bitlocker.Im running windows 10 1709 edu/32gb internal/2gb ram

Heed the advice of the software, you must disable BitLocker before cloning. This is highly recommend if you ever want to get access to the drive.

There is nothing wrong with having to re-enable it after restoring the clone.

Step 1: disable BitLocker.

Step 2: clone drive

Step 3: restore the cloned image to the new drive.

Step 4: Re-Enable BitLocker.

 

How to enable Bitlocker for Fixed Drives?

Hi All,

I'm on Windows 10 Pro, Bitlocker (without TPM) is enabled and working for Removable drives, as well as the OS Drive.

I have an additional 2TB internal SATA drive that Bitlocker does not see. I do not get the option to enable Bitlocker, in the right click context menu for the drive.

If I go to Manage Bitlocker, the drive is not listed as a fixed data drive. It's not listed at all.

There is nothing wrong with the drive itself. In its current unencrypted state, I have data stored on it, and can access, read and write to all of the drives contents.

I've checked through the bitlocker group policy options, and I've googled this to death. Any help, short of a format/reload would be greatly appreciated.
