  1. BitLocker Lost Its Mind - Encrypting iSCSI LUNs despite being disabled

Hi Community,I recently rebuild a new Windows 11 server for my home media system. At first, everything was fine. I migrated the media data LUNs from a Synology NAS and repointed them to my new Windows host. Now it seems BitLocker is encrypting the fixed disks, despite the fact that BitLocker is not enabled !. I'm unsure of how to stop this process or what this means from a recovery perspective.Trying to disable it results in the following:But yet, there are no protectors on the disk:And diskmgmt shows that the partitions are BitLocker encrypted:I'm so frustrated. I'm afraid that when this p

  2. Bitlocker automatically encrypts connected iSCSI drive without asking. Interrupted after seconds and data seems lost.

Just bougt a Surface Book 2. Connected it to my wifi and my iSCSI drive (DBitLocker Lost Its Mind - Encrypting iSCSI LUNs despite being disabled :). (not a problem with any other windows laptop before)

It automatically began to encrypt my D: drive, no pop-up, no asking for administrative privilegies, nothing.

    The log says:

23:00:00 BitLocker encryption was started for volume D: using XTS-AES 128 algorithm.23:00:02 A BitLocker key protector was created.

23:00:06 Failed to backup BitLocker Drive Encryption recovery information for volume D: to your Microsoft account.

23:00:06 Failed to automatically enable Device Encryption.

23:00:12 Failed to backup BitLocker Drive Encryption recovery information for volume D: to your Microsoft account.

23:00:12 Failed to automatically enable Device Encryption.

After this, I cannot open my HDD with 500 GB of data.

Windows says something like this, then i double click on the drive:

this version of windows does not support this feature of bitlocker drive encryption. to use this feature upgrade the Operating system

    I use:

    OS Version: 10.0.18363 N/A Build 18363.

There are no new updates in Windows Update.

I have tried all the repair-bde and manage-bde options, and they doesn't work.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...er-drive-encryption-tools-to-manage-bitlocker

Is there anything else I can try, or is all of my photos , music and documents from the last 10 years lost?

It is quiet amazing, that Microsoft makes Windows autoencrypt a NAS RAID 1 iSCSI drive without asking. Thank you for corrupting my data, with bad programming of Bitlocker.

  4. BitLocker Lost Its Mind - Encrypting iSCSI LUNs despite being disabled

External USB HDD drive bitlocker encrypted without a key

    Hello CatchyWater7200,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

I am aware that you're having trouble accessing your external USB disk drive that has been encrypted by BitLocker. I am here to help. Allow me to ask a question.

    • Would you mind sharing what exactly the message shows when ask for the USB key?

Your drive appears to have been encrypted using BitLocker, a function that guards your data against illegal access. For access to the drive, BitLocker requires a password or recovery key. Since you don't have a BitLocker USB key, you can try using the BitLocker recovery key to unlock the drive. Here are the steps to do that:

    1. Connect the external USB disk drive to your Surface Pro 6.
    2. When prompted to enter the BitLocker key, click on "More options". Or you can enter "Esc" key or the Windows key to continue.
    3. Click on "Enter recovery key".
    4. Enter the BitLocker recovery key that you found on your Microsoft account.
    5. Click on "Unlock".

If the above steps don't work, you can try disabling BitLocker on the external USB disk drive. Here are the steps to do that:

    1. Connect the external USB disk drive to your Surface Pro 6.
    2. Open File Explorer and right-click on the external USB disk drive.
    3. Click on "Manage BitLocker".
    4. Click on "Turn off BitLocker".
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to disable BitLocker on the external USB disk drive.

Please note that disabling BitLocker will remove the encryption from the external USB disk drive and make it less secure. Therefore, it's recommended to re-enable BitLocker once you've accessed your files and photos.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
