BitLocker no longer an option after many years of use.

For years I had BitLocker enabled on a laptop with Windows 10 home edition as well as another laptop with Windows 11 Home Edition with keys associated with my MS account. After the latest update on Windows 10, a yellow caution sign and unlock icon appeared next to the laptop hard drive. MS Online information said to clear the icon disable and then reenable Bitlocker. After downloaded the key, disabling BitLocker, restarted the computer, I went in to enable and BitLocker under Settings is no longer an option. Online MS sites say that BitLocker is not available to either Windows 11

Windows 8.1 PRO unable to unlock Bitlocked drive

    Here is the screenshot

As you can see Drive D is no longer present in BitLocker Drive Encryption.

When I click on this Drive under Explorer I got the option to FORMAT this Drive and when I click cancel I get the following.

When I do Right Click on this Drive, I no longer see BitLocker option like I used to.

Need to turn off Bitlocker to install Windows 10

    Hi,

We suggest doing the following steps again to resolve the issue. To complete the procedure, make sure that you have the following information:

    • You must be able to provide administrative credentials.
    • The drive must be BitLocker-protected.
To suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption on an operating system drive, please follow the steps below:

    • Click Start, click Control Panel, click
System and Security, and then click BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    • Click Suspend Protection for the operating system drive.
    • A message is displayed, informing you that your data will not be protected while BitLocker is suspended and asking if you want to suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    • Click Yes to continue and suspend BitLocker on the drive.

Let us know how it goes.

    Turn of Bitlocker

I have an external USB drive encrypted with Bit locker

Was able to access it just fine with the password

Choose the “turn off BitLocker” option

It went through the steps of decrypting

The drive disappeared from the file manager when it returned it was still locked and the password I used prior no longer works from the command line. It says I have the wrong password

If I choose "Unlock Drive" from windows OS I get "The BitLocker Encryption on This Drive isn't Compatible with Your Version of Windows try a newer version"

    • I have tried on three machines and still no luck
