Having an issue with some new machines at work, where Bitlocker is off in Control Panel, but manage-bde shows used space encryption is on.
They are new Dell Latitude machines and do have TPM modules which are on by default, and the encryption is on after initial, standard, Windows setup but not connected to any network so not applying a Group Policy etc.

    What is turning this on?
How do we completely turn off all encryption, at least temporarily?
I tried turning TPM off in BIOS but that makes no difference on its own.
We want to use imaging software which won't work properly with any encryption on the drive.

  2. BitLocker encrypting Used or Entire space?

I usually been reinstalling Win10 to get rid of the so called "clutter" on my system to make it more fresh and such.
Regarding BitLocker, I always select to encrypt the entire drive as opposed to encrypting used spaced only.
The entire drive option takes literally 9 hours to encrypt and complete.
So I was thinking, is it wise to always select Encrypt Used Space Only whenever I reinstall in the future or is that option only for new machines and drives?

I just don't have the time to wait for my entire drive to be encrypted as I need to work on my programs and during the encryption process it just slows my system down.

When encrypting the used space only, new and existing data will be encrypted?
    Am I correct?

So when I reinstall Windows 10 the next time around, should I select encrypt Used Space Only?

    Just want to save time.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

BitLocker - Used Space Encryption on used Laptop?

If you take a disk and set bitlocker to encrypt only used space it will encrypt the blocks used by the filesystem. If there was some old deleted stuff on the disk when you started that could in theory be recovered. After turning on bitlocker all new files are encrypted. They are not decrypted when you delete them and these deleted files can't be retrieved.

If you have ever encrypted the whole disk you only need to encrypt used space if re-installing. It will not be possible to retrieve anything from the remaining space on the disk as it was previously encrypted.

  4. Bitlocker Off, but showing used space encryption On?

BitLocker - Used Space Encryption on used Laptop?

I would like to use the Used Space Only option as that is still the only faster way of encrypting.
Let me make a correction here regarding my original Thread question.
As I recall, I did select to encrypt the Used Space Only option since I did not have any deleted data that was sensitive. However, I did a few clean reinstalls with choosing BitLocker to encrypt the Used Space.

So my only concerns was these:

    1. Will deleted files be De-crypted if Used Space Only was encrypted?
    2. If I were to reinstall Windows again, would it be fine to select Used Space Only again?

So those were my only two concerns, since I ALWAYS used BitLocker to encrypt the Used Space only.
