Windows 10: Bitlocker Recovery key ID changes after restart/Motherboard replacement

Background of this issue.The laptop mainboard was replaced due to faulty RAM slot. Initially I'm able to generate the BitLocker recovery key via https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey . But after a reboot, I found that it is showing a different recovery key ID than the one recorded into my Microsoft account. Now I'm not able to generate the key nor do the IT Support, the only solution i found from internet is to reformat it. But why and how is BitLocker recovery key ID changes by itself? and if there is a way to get back my access.

The Bitlocker recovery key in my Microsoft account does not work after motherboard was replaced.

The motherboard was successfully replaced in a Lenovo P16 ThinkPad. However, the Bitlocker recovery key listed in my Microsoft account was shown to be incorrect. The Key ID in my Microsoft account is different than the Key ID referenced on the repaired computer. Please provide any information that might help me recover my computer.

Does bitlocker key not work when motherboard is replaced?

Bitlocker recovery key don't change, unless the disk has been decrypted and re-encrypted or disk has been physically replaced (i.e. faulty drive replacement).

Bitlocker makes use of TPM that's embedded to motherboard so you don't need to unlock a Bitlocker encrypted drive during boot. When a motherboard is replaced, the unlock key no longer exists, so you will be prompted to enter a recovery key.

Therefore, you will want to make sure you have a backup Bitlocker recovery key. To do so, navigate to Control Panel > System and Security > BitLocker Drive Encryption, and select Back up your recovery key. You can do so at anytime, or even backup to multiple
locations.

Your computer manufacturer will be able to advise you further on what to do next after a motherboard replacement. Do ask the technican before you allow them to replace the motherboard.

I got the below message.

You don't have any BitLocker recovery keys in your Microsoft account.
