  1. BitLocker stolen what do I do

My bitlocker was stolen. I formatted and when I logged back in everything was fine then I had to restart. My BitLocker recovery key came up and it no longer works. I formatted again because the key I had written down did not work.I have been told that windows 11 home doesn't have BitLocker by two computer antivirus companies. And a person calling from Washington stated the same thing. Yet the Microsoft website on a page, states that Win 11 Home has a limited form of bitlocker.I am missing about 40 videos for my YouTube Channel. Is BitLocker useful in the case of stolen laptop?

Imagine the case when a BitLocker enabled Windows 10 Laptop is stolen and the thief wants to read the data on the hard drive. He knows taking out and reading the hard drive on another computer is not possible because BitLocker is present. But he can simply try to bruteforce the Windows login password to get into the OS so he can still read the data.

If it's a local account it seems it's very feasible. Even in the case of Microsoft account, if I remember correctly the user can still login without internet connection so I can assume that the hash of the password is also on the hard drive, the bruteforce password cracking method can apply too.

So is BitLocker useful in the case of stolen laptop?

Need to turn off Bitlocker to install Windows 10

    Hi,

We suggest doing the following steps again to resolve the issue. To complete the procedure, make sure that you have the following information:

    • You must be able to provide administrative credentials.
    • The drive must be BitLocker-protected.
To suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption on an operating system drive, please follow the steps below:

    • Click Start, click Control Panel, click
System and Security, and then click BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    • Click Suspend Protection for the operating system drive.
    • A message is displayed, informing you that your data will not be protected while BitLocker is suspended and asking if you want to suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    • Click Yes to continue and suspend BitLocker on the drive.

Let us know how it goes.
