  1. Bitlocker trashed flash drives?

Hi Today I encrypted two small USB flash drives on a Windows 10 computer. Both those drives seem to have been trashed by the process. If I plug one in, an error window pops up saying to insert the drive, in this case d and e. But obviously they are already inserted. In disk management the drives shows with all space unallocated. However no processes can be executed on the drive and right clicking does not bring up options such as format, change drive letter etc. Tried the drives on another Windows 10 machine and it's the same. I have tried using the command line utility manage-bde with n

    :)

  2. BitLocker Save to USB Flash missing?

    Hi,

I followed the step by step guide on what Brink wrote up below.
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3...-a.html?filter[1]=Security System Tools

However, when turning ON BitLocker to encrypt the OS drive only, and ask me to where to save the recovery key, I get only the Save to File and not the Save to USB Flash. Has MS taken out the Save to USB selection since WIn 10 version 1511?

I followed all the steps and left BitLocker to its default setting (except for encryption method).

I was able to save the recovery key to a file which was my USB flash drive.

    Bitlocker trashed flash drives?

clean possibly infected flash drives and CD-RWs

Your steps in post #1 should work for 99% of viruses that may be on a usb flash drive. However, there are a very few viruses that can infect the MBR of a drive. I would use Diskpart from a command prompt (Admin) to clean them. In the command prompt type DISKPART then, at the Diskpart prompt use the commands:

LIST DISKnote the disk number of the usb and use it in place of # in the command:SELECT DISK #
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

After this you will have cleaned the partition table from the usb and created a partition using the whole of the the available space. You can then format this partition in File Explorer.

For a CD-RW, if you right-click on it in File Explorer there is an Erase option.
