Windows 10: Bitlocker will not except Alphanumeric pin/password

After a little help please


I've got one laptop Acer Travelmate i5 10gen that will not take a Bitlocker pin with both letters and numbers

I've just built the other 19 of a batch i'm doing fine, no dramas at all.

This one though, i've ran out of ideas. DOne nothing different to the previous ones


I've even, wiped back to factory and only changed the gpedit Require addional auth on startup &Allow enhanced pin but still no luck.


What its doing is not allowing you to enter the numbers on the number keys if you have an alphanumberic pin like dave345. You can with the numbers with the function keys?? and wierdly, if you enter a number only pin like 123456, the numbers work fine!!


Suggestions please, as i'm out of ideas

my question was:

does password more stronger than pin against brute force attacks (since pin is only numbers).

and why i cant set up bitlocker using password (i only have the pin option).

I have a question regarding bitlocker encryption.

I have my main PC which is a desktop PC, and an asus ultra-book (with tpm).

I encrypted both PCs with bitlocker (their C: drive, so when I boot I need to enter a password\pin).

on my desktop PC I could set bitlocker encryption using a password, but on my ultra-book I could only encrypt it with a pin.

I have two question:

1) isn't a pin less secure against brute force attacks? since it's only include numbers? its harder to brute force a password having 20 letters and numbers than a pin with 20 numbers.

2) how can I encrypt my laptop using a password? I have searched for a lot of time and simply couldn't do that

• Click Start menu and go to Settings.
• In Settings, click the Accounts icon.
• Click on Sign-in options.
• Change both your password and pin one by one.
