Bizzare CPU Temps, Should I be concerned?

I have something bizarre happening with my CPU that I am really struggling to understand...This isn't a serious problem, just bizarre. Basically when in idle, or even when I am using my PC minimally, my CPU temp spikes 20-25°c until I open task manager. Then it returns to usual temps. If I leave task manager open - the temps remain stable.I am proud of my computer temps, so to satisfy my obsessive cooling disorder I am hoping to find an answer or gain some more understanding. My usual idling temps for my CPU is 29-36°c, Even when browsing web this doesn't climb any higher really. Usually 32-42°

I am proud of my computer temps, so to satisfy my obsessive cooling disorder I am hoping to find an answer or gain some more understanding.

My usual idling temps for my CPU is 29-36°c, Even when browsing web this doesn't climb any higher really. Usually 32-42°c

Recently, if left alone the CPU will spike to 56-65°c when measured across the cores it seems to be the performance cores that display higher temps - efficient remain cool. Even more bizarre my coolant temp remains cool - at around 30-35°c. Almost as if the cores aren't actually that temp and are reading incorrectly??

So I looked up a few forums and considered that maybe something malicious was hiding itself from task manager, so I downloaded process explorer to try and catch the potential culprit but alas, the temps return to normal when that runs also. I should also mention the temps drop almost instantly within 3 seconds. I'll also notice the temps climb when using the PC by 20-25°c when in use however, opening task manager and keeping window open while using the PC the temps will return 32-42°c and remain that way until I close task manager. approx 3-5 minutes after task manager is closed CPU will climb up again whether in idle or in use.

Steps I have taken so far:
    - Run Rkill and then...

    - Run CCleaner on registry and PC
    - Run Windows Virus Scan

    - Cleaned entire computer temporary files etc

    - Run Malwarebytes scan (second program opinion)

    - re-applied thermal paste to CPU and mounted cooler again.

    PC specs:
    12700k CPU Intel
Corsair H150i Elite LCD water cooler (360mm rad)

    3080ti EVGA GPU

    32gb RAM 3200mhz (I think)

Am I missing something here? Is there an explanation?

    Hi Nicole,

Greatly appreciate your reply! I define spike as a temp rise and fall. However if the PC is left unattended the CPU will consistently hold 57c-65c and stay that way for eternity unless I open task manager, then the temps remain between 29-35c if task manager is left open. If I walk away from the PC with task manager open the temps will remain at 29-35c for eternity - I come back after a few hours, close task manager and sure enough within 5 minutes we are back to 57-65.

I have understanding that 12th and 13th gen CPU's are higher in temp and the heat threshold has been raised. But this has only just started noticeably happening within the last week. I built this computer only a year ago so I'm still in that "lust" period where I have been obsessing about everything to do with it (haha)

I want to be able to identify what is causing this but I just can't if both task manager and process explorer solve the problem and don't reveal anything. Is there another way to determine if potentially unwanted software could be the culprit? Or whether a windows process is behaving incorrectly?

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

12th gen Intel processor's temperature tends to spike normally between 30-50 degrees celsius even on idle moments while it can go up to 80 degrees celsius while gaming or on full load. This is still considered safe and normal.

But you can still check if the radiator of the AIO is working correctly and dissipating heat properly. Check the fans of the radiator also. You can try to underclock the CPU to test also.

You can also use high-performance thermal pastes that are used for overclocking to get better temperature readings. You can check this link for reference.

    Regards.
