  1. black laptop screen, only useable through a tv and HDMI ports

I'm currently using the tv in the living room to write this because the laptop screen is blank. i'm pretty sure the laptop has convinced itself it is the second screen in this scenerio. when i use the "project button" pc screen is highlited and if i press the others nothing happens. i'm pretty sure its not a backlight or screen brightness problem.

    things i've tried

reset, shut down multiple times, with and without HDMI cable inserted

    new HP drives all four

a static dump, battery removed 30 seconds ,01 minute and 02 minutes. while holding the power button

try to aceess and swicth via screen resolution display seetings TV is the only visable option

use Dism tool programme crashed everytime

use a system restore point none made/accessable

used advanced boot seetings to remove the last quality patch

used HP diagnostic tool to scan for OS problems

    :)

  2. Connecting laptop running windows 10 to hdtv with hdmi

    I'm not very tech savvy.

    • I know how to run the HDMI cable between laptop and tv.
    • I know how to set my tv to use correct HDMI port.
What I need to know is how I tell my laptop to recognize my tv and configure it to use my tv as a monitor.

Anyone that can tell me step by step how to do this in windows 10?

    Thanks.

    Edit 11:43 PM

Thanks for all the help. Hooked up the HDMI cable, plugged tv back in, started laptop up, switched the tv to correct HDMI port and viola...there was my laptop start screen on my tv! Didn't have to do anything but make a few display
    adjustments!

    Thanks again, everyone.

  3. laptop to tv with hdmi problem

    Hi,

To begin with, I'm using windows 10.

I've had an HDMI cable hooked up from my laptop to my TV and easily duplicated the screen via the display settings to do so.

The other day, I removed the HDMI from the laptop.

The following day, I plugged the HDMI back into the laptop, made sure the settings were still set, but the image would not duplicate onto the TV at all. I scrolled through different options (such as duplicating, expanding, showing on laptop screen only and
showing on TV screen only) and nothing seemed to bring the image up on the TV.

I've changed the cable to see if it was a faulty cable, I've changed to different HDMI ports on the TV and I've plugged in other devices, such as my PlayStation to see if the TV picks up other HDMI, and it does.

The TV definitely registers that there is something there, the screen is black but never indicates 'no signal'. That only happens when I remove the HDMI from the laptop.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Cheers

    Joe

  4. black laptop screen, only useable through a tv and HDMI ports

Laptop monitor is black but HDMI to TV works

So, I seem to be having the opposite problem of most. After updating my laptop to windows 10 the laptop monitor basically does not work - it's as if the graphics card does not see it. When I turn the computer on it shows me the dell logo with options to
open the boot settings, and it starts to show the graphics for loading windows and then just goes to a black screen. Like others I thought maybe it's the issue with thinking there's 2 monitors when there really are not because it's acting like my dual monitor
work computer at start-up, but none of the listed fixes worked. I tried to plug the computer into the TV via an HDMI cable and that does work but the laptop monitor goes from a 'light' black to an 'off' black. Of course the computer at that point only thinks
there's one monitor which is the TV when I go into the settings. I've tried every combination of plugging in and pulling out the HDMI at different points in the reboot process but I always end up in the same place of having to plug the laptop into the TV to
use it. It's as if the Intel graphics doesn't see the laptop monitor as an option. I also tried to update the graphics drivers but it says there are no available updates. Anyone else have this problem and a suggested solution so I can move my laptop away
    from the TV?!
