Windows 10: black page opening emails and Word documents

There was an automatic upgrade to Windows 10 yesterday which I did not want but it started automatically and took about 2 hours. Now, when an email is opened, the page goes black and stays black until repeated left key presses get it to reveal the message. When scrolling down the email, it goes black again. The same happens in Word and impossible to scroll through a document without waiting ages for the black page to revert to an open page.

What do I do to get back to the system that worked before the upgrade?

My laptop will not open current saved documents in word on desktop. A window opens and goes to reconfigure, then asks if I want to reboot. After reboot the same thing happens when I try to open a word document. This happens with all of word documents on
desktop. However, word documents open with no problem through my email.

I thought I had Windows 10 but on my programs list I also see Windows 2016.

Any ideas?

 

I am trying to email a word document to myself.

I would suggest you cancel everything open and start fresh using just these steps:

• Open your Mail app or website
• Click the New button and write a new email message with your address in the To line
• Click the Attachment paperclip button and select your Word file to attach
• Click Send

Do you get an error when trying to open Word documents, and if so, is that for all documents and what is printed on that error?

Can you open Word form its application icon, and if so, if you go to File - Open, can you open a Word document form there, rather than double clicking a Word document?

As an initial step, follow these steps to perform a full repair of your Office installation . . .

Open Control Panel - Programs and Features

Click Microsoft Office in the list of installed applications

At the top, click 'Change'

On the resulting dialog, click 'Repair' - choose the Online Repair, it is a comprehensive fix

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation . . .
