Windows 10: Black screen after updating to windows 11 pro

Hello,After updating to windows 11 Pro, I only see a black screen after logging in. I have tried starting the 'windows recovery environment' where under advanced options I see:Start-up repairCommand promptUninstall updatesUEFI Firmware settingsSystem restoreSystem image recoveryI have tried start up repair, which found no errors. I tried uninstall updates, which did nothing. System restore returned an error message 'You must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore'.Troubleshooting guides suggest that in

Black screen on windows 11

Hi I have a similar issue. I have a surface pro 8, windows 11. The screen is black for a long time before login.

Normally:

• Turn on computer
  
• Screen with clock and scenic background
  
• Swipe screen up
  
• Camera turns on
  
• Face recognition
  
• Logs in
  

Now (since Nov 19):

• Turn on computer
  
• Black Screen with clock
  
• Swipe screen up
  
• Black Screen for 30 - 90 seconds, can see and move mouse cursor
  
• Camera might turn on and logs in or screen times out due to no activity
  
• Turn screen off//on by pressing the power button
  
• Camera might turn on or screen times out due to no activity
  
• at some point it logs in
  

This happens 100% on shutdown then power on. It happens a lot, but not always on restarts.

I have tried:

• turning it on and off
  
• rolling back updates
  
• factory reset from device
  
• factory reset from internet
  
• factory reset then installing all the updates
  
• factory reset then pause updates then uninstall updates
  

Anyone have any insights?

• Were you able to get to the desktop screen after you restarted the system?
  
• When the screen was blank, were you able to see the cursor on the screen?
  
• Did you get any error code or error message?

Windows 7 black screen of death

I read a report a little while ago that said the black screens were nothing to do with updates but due to a malicious program (it hit more than just windows 7 users - vista, xp and 2000 were also prone to the black startup screen of death if infected). My windows 7 install is fully up-to-date and i've never had the black startup screen.

Just run some decent anti virus and you should be safe (i suggest microsoft security essentails since it's free and pretty decent). When you've installed an anti-virus i'd suggest doing a full scen to be sure there's nothing there.
