Windows 10: Black screen at login

After I sleep my computer, sometimes the screen is just black with my cursor. I can still do the basic functions like turn brightness down and move my cursor around, but I cannot login or see any graphics. Sleeping again doesn't fix the problem, all I can do is force shut down by holding down the power button (don't worry I have an SSD). Have any of you experienced the same problem or know a fix? I literally can't do anything except force shut down.

Just upgraded to Windows 10. The system automatically defaulted to a MS video driver after upgrade. In my attempt to switch back to my integrated NVIDIA driver the screen went black and has been black since. When booting up I get the initial windows splash
screen but then instead of the login screen I get a black screen. I know the computer and files are fine because I can see them when networked from other PCs. I am hoping there is a way for me to blindly (using keyboard) login, and change back to Windows default
driver. Any assistance appreciated.

I think I am close to resigning myself to repairing or reinstalling windows.

I have downloaded the Windows 10 Install Tool onto a USB device but cannot it get it to start up during boot even after having changed boot sequence etc.

Two questions

1) Where/how can i get an actual Windows 10 physical disc to perform the repair?

2) If I just installed a new compatible PCI Video Card and attached the VGA cable to it, would windows auto detect and switch to the new card during boot thus allowing me to see my login screen?

3) Are there a set of steps I can perform to simply default back to the windows virtual video driver? such as follows: 1) Press spacebar 2) Enter log in info 3) Wait for system to log in 4) Hit Windows + R for run window 5) Enter cmd and enter ... etc etc
etc.... ie. a list of things I can do with a keyboard to perform the steps blindly to switch driver.... ideally a set of steps that involved me opening control panel, opening the display window and switching driver would be perfect

I've had that a few times, like you I have to force shutdown to recover, and like you it's after my computer has been sleeping.
Recently it has stopped happening and I have no real idea why.

For a while I just stopped putting my computer to sleep and shut it down instead, later when I decided to try again the problem seemed to be gone, but I do think there was a version upgrade in between.

I don't think it's going to be too long before the next one.\
So maybe that will solve it for you.

See if it is a program that doesnt let you set it in sleep mode.
