  1. Black Screen of... Oblivion?

Hello Microsoft Support Community! Any assistance and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Last night, I was in the middle of playing Fallout New Vegas revisiting the classics, of course when my computer decided to take the proverbial jump - midgameplay, grey squares materialized on screen, which resulted in me immediately turning off my computer. When I went to reboot the computer, all that occurred is it displaying the Alienware Logo and Monitor Logo just fine, before then becoming stuck on a black screen.

This was last night, and the equipment in question is an unmodified Alienware R5 Aurora running Windows 10. At the time, I suspected I may have overheated some of the components, and immediately suspended use of my computer and unplugged any and all wires.

Earlier today, I decided to take a look at the innards of the computer, accompanied by a friend who was far more knowledgeable of computers and who brought along an air canister - ultimately, he noted that there was no signs of overheating, and in our tests all of the fans worked fine. Which left me with no where to go.

I googled my crisis and noticed that some folks were reporting the latest Windows update as causing problems eerily similar to mine - notably, the black screen of nothingness. I managed to get into the troubelshooting and repair part of my computer, and in the course of four-five hours moseyed around following one lead to another lead with zero results. In that time, I:

Accessed safe mode, and noticed that while I was able to access the homepage of my desktop, I noticed that the screen had green shadings in peculiar places - if I clicked on a shortcut, there would be tabs underneath it. I'm not entirely certain how to describe it.

I did attempt to uninstall the latest Windows update, but I'm not sure if I succeeded - I did so through the F12 settings of uninstalling the latest quality update, but it had no impact on the computers screen When trying to uninstall it again or uninstall the feature update, the computer informed me that wasn't possible.

After that, I then tried to reset the computer and keep my personal files - no go. It went through the process of "resetting" everything, but when I rebooted in safe mode nothing had changed. I then tried again, and clicked on the option to reset everything again - including my personal files. Again, the computer went through a process and displayed a bar noting that my files were being reset, yada yada. I reboot, still black screen. I enter safe mode after rebooting three times, and all of my files were still there - nothing had changed. At this point, I'm at my wits end.

As such, I then click on the F12/F2 option of factory restore, which I presume to be factory reset. This process lasted longer than the last two, but upon rebooting the computer the black screen continues to haunt me and, when trying to enter safe mode, the computer informs me that it cannot install Windows in safe mode - giving me the option to click OK, whereby it immediately resumes the vigilance of the black screen.

I'm sorry - this is a lot of information to throw out into the wild, but I do believe I am at my wits end. Is anyone aware of what the problem could be? I'm no longer certain if the issue is the problematic Microsoft Windows update, or if the problem is instead something to do with a graphics card or the motherboard - neither displayed physical damage, to my or my friends eye, and I'm not sure how to disable the graphics drive/revert to an older driver without somehow getting into the Nvidia settings of my desktop through the control panel. I'm contemplating taking the computer in to be looked at, but I'd prefer not spending money for an issue to be diagnosed only for a simple workaround to be found, or to take it in and then spend heaps of money on getting it to working.

Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated! Heck, if it could be relayed in simple terms that anyone could understand, than even better.

    :)
