Black screen when trying to repair c: disk drive

Hello I have been having a problem where when I try to fix my disk drive my screen goes black after a few hours. This happened when my power tripped and I restarted my pc, I had booted into windows just fine but it said there were some problems with my disk drive and I needed to restart in order to do repairs. Now the problem is whenever I start the repairs by restarting it goes fine for 1-9 hours on stage one but then my monitor suddenly goes black like its not receiving any signal from my hdmi. I am able to boot into windows if I skip repairs just fine and do work but my disk on task manager

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Automatic Repair - black screen

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft community.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. I’ll certainly help you with this.

I suggest you to perform a Startup repair and then run a check disk to check if there is any corruption with the hard drive.

Step 1: Start up Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain system problems that might prevent Windows from starting.
Start up Repair scans your computer for the problem and then tries to fix it so your computer can start correctly.

Download the Windows 10 ISO and create a Media Creation Tool from another computer to perform
    Start up Repair.

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    Note: Refer to the section
"Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool" in the above article for creating the tool.

    • Connect your USB drive with ISO image or the OS DVD and reboot the computer. A black screen will appear with gray text saying
"Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press any key.
    • Select the correct time and Keyboard type.
    • Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.
    • Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen.
    • Click Advanced options in Troubleshoot screen.
    • Select Start up repair.

Step 2: Once you are able to get to the desktop screen, try running check disk on the hard drive to see if there are any corruptions.

    • Press Windows key + X and click on
      Command prompt (admin)
    • Type chkdsk /f and hit
      enter.

NOTE: The root drive has to be C: and the command may schedule a task at the system startup, if it does, then press
Y to schedule a task and restart the computer to perform check disk.

Important: While performing check disk on the hard drive, if any bad sectors are found, then check disk will try to repair that sector. Any data available on a bad sector might be lost.

Once Check Disk completes, boot the computer and then check if the issue persists.

Hope this will help you. Keep us posted with the status of the issue to assist you further.

    Thank you.

    repairing drive c

The part of process that you are in when updating Windows is the check disk (CHKDSK), the system is checking your drive for errors.

Are you still having the issue and stuck at Scanning and repairing drive process?

As a workaround, you can follow these steps to bypass the CHKDSK process:

    • Hold down the power button for 4 seconds.
    • The PC will reboot.
    • You will get stuck again on the process, repeat step 1.
    • You will get a message "press any key to bypass the chkdsk."
    • Press any key and it will continue on the update process.

Let us know if you need further assistance.
