Windows 10: Black screen when waking from sleep, automatically restarts

I sometimes get a black screen when waking my desktop PC from sleep, which then automatically restarts after 10-30 seconds. It will then perform normally like I just freshly booted up my PC. This is not consistent at all as sometimes I can go for a week or even a month with nothing happening and the sleep function performs as you would expect. But then out of the blue I will run into this error of a black screen after wakeup and a fresh restart.


Looking at the event viewer I can see that there are errors saying that there were problems such as:

"Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC0000001." Kernel-Boot, Event ID 16

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." Kernel-Power, Event ID 41, Task Category 63

"The previous system shutdown at 12:30:28 on ‎13/‎03/‎2021 was unexpected." EventLog, Event ID 6008


The event viewer also shows what looks like a crash log after the restart:

"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000119 0x0000000000000002, 0xffffffffc000000d, 0xffff880f65ffa860, 0xffff948b1c2cabf0. A dump was saved in: C:\windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 14fab99e-b267-4cf9-a99c-1253118d204e."



I've been dealing with this problem for months now and there doesn't seem to be any pattern other than it will happen randomly after I wake it from sleep. I've tried updating my display driver, disabling fast startup, doing a memory test and running system file checker, all of which haven't helped much.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Screens black after waking machine from sleep

Does it only happen when waking up the computer from sleep?

To check for possible causes of this issue, we suggest you to run Power Troubleshooter. To do so, follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key.
• Type Troubleshooting.
• On the left side, click View all.
• Click Power.
• Follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue still persists, you may update the Chipset driver from the device manufacturer.

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

• Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the command line below:

Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

PC wakes up automatically from Sleep mode

My name is Mohammed Shuaib, an Independent Advisor and I'm here to assist you with the issue of PC wakes up automatically from Sleep mode. Please follow the below to fix the issue.

Fix #1

Step 1:

Go to the search box next to the windows icon and type Edit Power Plan

Step 2:

Then click on Change advanced power settings

Step 3:

Expand Sleep and then expand Allow wake timers

Step 4:

Set Disabled for both On battery and Plugged in.

Step 5:

Click/tap on Apply and then press OK.

Step 6:

Restart the PC
