Windows 10: Black Screen with only cursor upon lock with elevated windows terminal open

Hi team, When I have an elevated Windows Terminal open no matter if it is open with Powershell, or Command Prompt and I lock my computer, it just goes to a black screen with only a cursor. I have to hard power down the computer to get back going. Some notes:This happens on a few models of HP machines.Windows Version: 24H2 OS Build 26100.2161The account that I use is not admin on this computer and I need to elevate with another account. This happens on both Windows Terminal and Windows Terminal Preview.I cleared out all of the .json files so that I can make sure I was working from scrat

I understand your concern about accessing the device with black screen once you wake up the system. We will help you with this issue.

Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

• Are you able to boot the device to desktop with black screen from sleep mode?
• From when are you facing this issue?
• Were you able to see any error code/ error message with this issue?

This issue might have occurred due to corrupted/ outdated display drivers on your computer.

I suggest you to try the troubleshooting steps suggested by Sharath Srinivasa
on August 7, 2015 and check if it helps you to resolve the issue.

If you are not able to boot the device to lock screen refer to: Blank or black screen before sign-in

If you are able to access/ boot the device to lock screen and then black screen issue occurs refer to:

Black screen after sign-in and you can see a mouse cursor

Try the troubleshooting steps mentioned accordingly.

Windows 10: Black lock screen with a cursor

Hello,

My upgraded Windows 10 machine was working fine until today. Whenever I open my PC the lock screen is just black with a cursor. I have to hold the lock button until the PC powers off, and restart it. I am using a laptop. Any way I can fix this?

I have tried following the steps of booting into safe mode, going into the control panel and uninstalling the latest windows update that caused the 'Windows black screen with cursor' error. However, now it wont even boot to the desktop, it will show 'Automatic repairs being done' and then automatically booting to safe mode. Upon checking my BIOS, the SSD drive with windows installed with it, is not even showing up in the boot list/priority. (still able to see drive in bios under System status and when checking under windows installation time.)
