Windows 10: Black screen without cursor after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro

After upgrading my Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro I have also been plagued with the black screen of death. After the BIOS screen it goes black and I do not even get a mouse cursor and I've also let it run for about 30 minutes just in case and nothing. I've tried a lot of the fixes that are being posted online:

-Updated the display adapter driver
-Subsequently uninstalled the display adapter driver
-Disabled fast startup
-Pulled out the battery
-Enabled F8 at startup
-Tried using an installation media DVD I made and that also gets stuck loading but with the blue Windows Logo.

Here is the kicker. I have a bootable USB that has Ultimate Boot CD on it with mini Windows XP. When I boot into mini Windows XP and click shutdown and select restart, Windows 10 then boots normally and will repeatedly boot normally as long as I don't eject that USB. Once I eject that USB I lose everything and I can't even get into Safe Mode. So I've gone back in to see what kind of display driver the mini Windows XP has but have had no luck in finding it. I did call Windows and they said my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad E555) is compatible with Windows 10. Beyond that they were not helpful at all. Any help would be appreciated?

Any resource for how to get from black screen and blinking cursor after Windows 10 upgrade download and install? Upon boot up screen is now black with the blinking cursor top left

 

window 10 enterprise problem

After i installed window 10 enterprise it showed desktop, after 1 minutes it showed a blank black screen with the cursor only, and whenever i try to start my pc it shows a black blank screen with only cursor without showing the desktop,help me rally important.

 

How if you disable display adapter in Device Manager, can it boot without the USB?

 

It cannot and I figured it wouldn't work; but my train of thought was that the mini Windows XP was using a generic driver. I had to try anyway, on the off chance the generic driver worked.

 

Suggestion :

Do a Repair Install, otherwise known as in-place install.

Download the current Win 10 iso file from one of the 2 links below:

Using MCT as example................
Download the Tool and run it.
Then select Create installation media for another PC
That will begin downloading the ISO file to your computer.
When download is completed, RIGHT click at the ISO > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
That will begin installing Windows 10.
You have the choice of keeping settings, files and apps, ot keeping nothing.
No product key is required.
Activation will be automatic.

 

Thanks for the suggestion daviddk but I just finished that process and the issue remains. I still have to use that bootable USB to just get the installation disk that to not freeze when it loads up.

 

If you have the bootable USB, then it is a good idea to use it now.

 

Hi folks,
I do have the same problem with my gtx590. But I resolve it by doing a froce quit (hold powerbutton for 5 seconds) and right after the shutdown I hit the powerbutton again, doing a more or less "hot start". That works.

But if I wait too long after force shutdown it does not work. This is super-strange. Seems like a roll back. Man no Idea. Living with that for the last three months or so.

I have same problem with lenovo thinkpad e555 after a clean (formatted) install of win 10. It seems any usb installed into the usb port (I use the one I used to install win 10 from, usb port on left side). A usb mouse works good, because I use it instead of the mouse pad anyway. hope this helps, but I'd like a solution to this also. I've heard of anything from bios upgrade to going into safemode and uninstalling the amd video driver, then running windows update, to just going to the amd web site and installing the amd drivers from there.

 

I do have a question Gimmick. Did you install your OS from a usb device? or a DVD? I used a USB downloaded iso from microsoft create tool, so I was wondering if that might have caused it, strange as that would be.
