Windows 10: Black SOD - Windows 11 - Dell g5 15

Hello everyone, After much research I can't find a solution...I have a Dell G5 15 last generation.I had a BSOD Driver overran stack buffer, which now turns out to be a Black Screen. A black screen and nothing else. The screen is on, the battery is working, the keyboard, fans, everything. But impossible to start the computer, nor to make it boot on a USB key with a Windows image because of this black screen. Everything is frozen on a black screen with the fans going really hard. Have any of you ever had this problem?

Hi,

I have a Dell G5 laptop and it's on Windows 11.

Suddenly it is not booting, it is stuck on a black screen after Dell logo.

I tried turning it off three times to get into the repair screen but nothing come up. It just shows black screen after logo, no repair screen comes up.

I ran the Diagnosis check from BIOS and its saying everything is good, no hardware error.

I did hard reset suggest by this article: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/...urn-on-or-boot-into-windows#identify-symptoms I tried resetting BIOS to default values. No luck.

I also created a bootable windows media via my USB drive, boot the laptop via the external device option from BIOS, and after Dell logo, it tried to load bootable Windows but it stuck on a Windows logo and never load anything up.

I tried all the options from what I can see online. need help.

Run the Dell Support Assist and see if it notes any needed driver updates.
What is the specific model number for your G5, there are several different models.
I looked at one G5's Dell download list and no USB drivers which suggest the default Microsoft drivers are all that are available.

Do not use the driver sites, especially on a Dell as it has proprietary hardware and drivers. Many times the driver sites will install older version or incorrect driver versions. For example, Dell's require the Dell model specific Realtek sound driver as it works in conjunction with Waves MaxxAudio pro. MaxxAudio only works with the Dell sound driver. One of the MaxxAudio functions is audio jack detection.

How long are you giving the Black screen to clear? I have one Dell system, after the recent update, will show a black screen after the Dell logo. But mine only lasts a few seconds but yours may take longer.

The bootable media you created is the Win 11 install media and configured for UEFI? An external USB device should boot but I have seen a situation where the system drive was comprised and kept the boot from proceeding.
