    Blank / empty taskbar after KB5012592 - no start menu, time, app icons, etc.


    My taskbar got wiped out after updating to KB5012592. No start menu, icons, or anything except the ^ button for the system tray. I restored the system to the prior state OS Build 22000.593, and tried the update again from the standalone .msu installer with the same result.I see that a similar issue occurred with an update back in October 2021, but none of those fixes from back then seem to work this time.Other than staying on build 22000.593 for a while, any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?Before restart during windows update, happy taskbar:After restart, sad empty taskbar:

    Start Menu and Blank icons. Literally.


    I can't open the start menu and I don't know why. The only thing I can do to it is right-click, nothing else. I cannot left-click it or even use the windows button. Also, there are two of my apps - Store and Microsoft Edge - have a blank icon. I can't open them nor unpin them to the taskbar. Please help. *Sad

    If you look at the taskbar the blank icons are between media player and google chrome.

    UWP apps: Blank icons in start menu

    All of my UWP app icons are blank/empty/missing in the start menu search only. They appear correct in the start menu list itself, in settings. Some are missing in the taskbar as well, some are not.

    I am using sagethumbs for some file extensions, but I disabled it and the issue persisted (after restarting Windows Explorer). I cleared the icon cache, still no luck.

    Anyone know a fix for this?

    I am using Windows 10 (1803 - Build 17134.112)
