Windows 10: Blank Screen When Playing PERFECTLY NORMAL MP4 Video

I'm seeing a blank screen, with the right audio, when playing an mp4 video through Photos.It looks like this:The mp4 is not corrupted. I can play it using other video media players - just not photos.Does this have to do with the fact that I uninstalled some default windows files, like media player extension, or media codec extension? These may not be the actual names!

Display Problems Playing Video Clips in Windows

Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click the Windows Setup tab. In the Components area, scroll to and click Multimedia. Click Details. If the Video Compression option is selected, it may not be installed properly, and needs to be removed. Follow these steps:

SYMPTOMS

When you play a video clip, you may experience one or more of the
following symptoms:

• The system may stop responding (hang).
  
• The video may flash.
  
• Distortion is observed in the video playback area.
  
• The video may just show a blank window, a white window, or a black
  window, even though the sound plays correctly.
  
• Some systems may experience hesitation problems with the video, where
  it continually starts and stops instead of playing smoothly.
  
• Videos only play in the large or expanded mode. The normal mode
  videos do not play.
  

CAUSE

Windows Video Compression is not installed, or may not be installed
properly on your system.

RESOLUTION

If you have just finished installing your multimedia program, try
restarting Windows and then try to play videos. If it still fails,
follow these steps to verify that Windows Video Compression is
installed properly:

Removing and Reinstalling Video Compression

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click
   Control Panel.
   
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
   
3. Click the Windows Setup tab.
   
4. In the Components area, scroll to and click Multimedia.
   
5. Click Details.
   
6. If the Video Compression option is selected, it may not be installed
   properly, and needs to be removed. Follow these steps:
   
   1. Clear the check box for this option, and then click OK.
      
   2. Click OK again to complete the removal.
      
   3. Repeat steps 2-5 to return to the Video Compression option in
      Add/Remove Programs.
      
7. Make sure the Video Compression box contains a check mark.
   
8. Click OK, then click OK again. Follow the on-screen instructions
   

 

Mp4 video unable to play

Hi, everyone.
I got a video mp4 unable to play or cannot render this file when i am play with windows media player.
I have tried to repair the video with Stella Phoenix video repair. But its same.







This video still have the file size, but it just unable to play.

Playing MP4 files

MP4 is a container file, a lot depends on the codecs within that.
MP4 can be played with Windows 10 with Films & TV, Photos, Windows Media Player, and VLC.
If those can't then there must be something odd/unusual in the file.

Right click the File > Properties > Details Tab.
see if that gives you more info, should be some info on the video/audio but not codecs.

Try the suggestions from post #3.

You have to be careful as viruses are propogated by people simply changing the filename extension and auto-forwarding via an infected PC and a compromised address list.
So a targeted scan with AV is necessary for every file attachement even if apparently from someone you know.
