Windows 10: Blank task bar, unable to open apps in Windows

Last week I was on my laptop and it was working fine, there was an update that it wanted to do but I ignored it. A few days ago I opened my laptop to find the background was the default windows background not mine and a spinning dial that said "preparing windows." I unlocked the computer and the task bar was blank. I couldn't get to settings or the command prompt window. I was able to get to Chrome and Edge because they were on my desktop. I opened Edge and it wouldn't let me sign in with my Microsoft account giving error code 3, 15, 1067. I tried several fixes like updating the BIOS firmwar

After applying the november windows 10 home update three of my task bar icons have become blank sheets. The ones changed are edge, store and wunderlist. The remainder are fine. The icons of the three appear correct in the all apps list. I have tried
unpin and re-pin with no change. The three applications work correctly and start fine from the task bar. It is just hard to remember which application is which blank. Note this has happened on my hp laptop which was upgraded from windows 8.1, My desktop
which has windows 10 professional does not have the problem. It was upgraded from windows 7 professional.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

Unable to hide Task bar

I suggest you to try the steps provided below and check if it helps.

a. Right click on the Task bar.

b. Click on Properties.

c. Put a check mark next to ‘Auto-hide’ the task bar.

d. Click on Apply and OK.

If the issue persists try the below steps to restart the Windows Explorer and check if that helps.

Step 1: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open Task Manager

Step 2: Click on
More details.

Step 3: Under the Processes tab, right-click on Windows Explorer entry and then click Restart.

Thank you for the suggestion. I checked a different user account which I had setup when windows 10 was first updated but had never accessed since. It does not have blank task bar icons.
