    hi,

i feel a bit embarrassed for having to post this, but considering i have searched far and wide and haven't found an answer to this frustrating issue, i may as well post here. i recently contracted a trojan (stupid, stupid, stupid, yes, i know), got a message about "a program with malicious intent" or something, called "winrmsrv" i believe, before shutting my computer down, booted it back up again, saw it asking for permission from my firewall, and i went through the hassle of restarting, installing and running malwarebytes, quarantining the threat, deleting it (i don't know if that was a good idea, either...), and now i've probably fucked up my poor computer even more by trying to find solutions with .reg files, cmds, tons of other shit, trying to use windows creation tool kit to no avail, etc. i almost feel like giving up at this point.

i feel really dumb about this. please know that i haven't use windows in a long time, and most of my experience comes from using windows xp/7 quite a few years ago, i've mostly used mac. i really don't know what i've gotten myself into, and i feel silly, i managed to fix windows update, i think, as i managed to update, but it did not fix windows security at all. i've also heard that my antivirus could be the issue, but i don't think that's the case, as the options are literally gone, and nothing works with windows defender. running malwarebytes/avast has come up with nothing after the initial threat, however, since this is a trojan... i'm afraid that it's still buried in my pc somewhere.

do i have to do a fresh install? i tried using the media tool thing to "upgrade" my system and repair it, without using a usb, and ended up with a black screen with the spinning dots for quite a long time. i don't know if i was being impatient or not, but i don't think that's supposed to take that long.

ugh, this is a clusterfuck. i don't know who the blame lies more on--me or microsoft. sorry if i haven't given enough information or if this all seems like gibberish. i'm extremely exhausted, for various reasons. i'm sorry lol

EDIT: idk if this is a bad idea or not, but i'm desperate at this point, and so i'm using this: https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/fw7gxa/windows_88110_window_defender_security_empty/

    wish me luck

Windows 8 Secure Boot Feature: Not So Secure?

    • Linux
    • Linux
    • Linux
    • Linux
    • Oh and OSX
Here is a statement from a Kernal Developer at Red Hat:

I'm not sure this exploits the legacy BIOS but rather it exploits the legacy boot method on MBR drives, injecting a signed key before the OS boots, which you are correct in that it has nothing to do with Windows 8. And the simplest fix would just be to require boot drives use GPT when Secure Boot is enabled in UEFI.

  3. Windows 8 Secure Boot Feature: Not So Secure?

So Linux is switching to secure boot also? Or they have to because of UEFI?

Windows Security *SECURITY AT A GLANCE* blank page

My windows security page is blank and I don't know what to do. I downloaded amp software to play my guitar then I realized that my pc was running slower, so I checked my windows security and now I can't see anything. Do I have a virus or did I break my windows
    security?
