Windows 10: BLE HID driver crashes in the middle of data transmission

Hello All,


I am working on BLE based barcode scanner which will send the data via HID over GATT profile. I am using nRF52840

device and Zephyr 1.13 with default connection interval parameters for my device.

My device uses 3 BLE Tx buffers so that my application works fast as expected in Android, iOS, Linux systems.

But on windows 10 system BLE HID driver crashes probably due to buffer overflow from sending the data so fast.

I checked the windows log and i see that "A command sent to the adapter has timed out. The adapter did not respond".


The behavior seen is that characters are not accepted anymore and the last character that is sent to windows is printed

continuously until the connection is closed. I also checked the connection interval used with Windows 10 system as 40 ms.



Windows information:

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

10.0.17134 Build 17134

Lenovo Laptop

I also checked some commercial devices that have similar application of using HID profile to send data and it also uses buffering

to speed up. Characters are sent with similar timing to my device and does not crash. I am not sure what is missing from my device

that it crashes the BLE driver of windows.


Has anyone come across this problem?


Any advice on how to debug this in windows would be very helpful.

Problem with HID (Human Interface Device) Drivers Missing

Hi,

It doesn't need to have two USB Input HID Driver, only one would work fine.

To check for possible cause of the issue, we suggest that you run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter. To do so, follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key. 
• Type Troubleshooting. 
• Click Hardware and Sound. 
  
• Click Hardware and Devices. 
• Follow the on-screen instructions. 

If the issue still persists, uninstall and reinstall the driver.

HID-compliant mouse. Device Status:This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Have you tried updating the driver for the HID-compliant mouse?

Follow these steps on how to update the driver:

To do this, follow these steps:

• In Device Manager, click the Driver tab in the device's Properties dialog box.
• Click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard.
• Follow the instructions to update the driver.

If that does not work, we suggest you contact the manufacturer of your laptop directly and ask for updated drivers for Windows 10.
