  1. Block program from using a specific file type

    Hello All

I am using a program called e!Cockpit for work, it has a wierd function where every 1 second it writes a file with the type .~u where it puts the name of the computer editing the file.

As you can probably imagine, this makes any cloud sync program stress out, because every time it has finished syncing the file, it has to start over. With Onedrive (which i am using now), it actually stops syncing other files because it is busy with this one.

I have searched and asked the creators, but i cannot turn off the "feature" in the program itself.

Is there a way to block the program from accessing this specific file type in windows, or maybe a way to instantly delete the file when it is created?

  2. How to stop Internet Explorer from associating a file type with a specific program

How to stop Internet Explorer from associating a file type with a specific program? IE keeps associating itself with Adobe PDF documents even when I have done this a hundred times:

    • Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button

Block program from using a specific file type 11899_en-us_8.jpg

      and then clicking Default Programs.
    • Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
    • Click the file type or protocol that you want the program to act as the default for.
    • Click Change program.
    • Click the program that you want to use as the default for the file type you selected,
I have full blown Adobe program and if I can't find a way to stop this I will just uninstall IE and Edge. Chrome doesn't do this. Really frustrated with this.

I tried your suggestion previously, selection made from Program Files
doesn't show up in the list

Block program from using a specific file type

Win10, blocking programs except those specifically allowed? (where did this feature go)

    @giridhar J

I tried what you suggested. However, this didn't do anything.

    • It doesn't work. For instance, I unchecked the "Enable Access to this program" for Internet Explorer. However, in both admin and child user accounts, you can still run Internet Explorer. It did not block the program at all.
    • This only applies to a select number of possible programs. This does not have the option to block all programs, which we could do through parental controls in Windows 7.
    • Even if it did work (which it doesn't) this has nothing to do with parental controls and blocking for specific user accounts.
After a couple responses that do not address the issue of parental controls and the blocking of all programs.... it makes me wonder if my question is being understood.

If the feature, which was in Windows 7, is simply not available, then please just acknowledge it rather than come up with solutions that do not address the issue that I'm asking about.
