I'm sticking to 1511. But Yesterday out of nowhere Windows 10 Update Assistant installed by itself. I blocked it in firewall and it can't download anything. Uninstalled it. Today it installed again. Does the method with task in task scheduler work? Any other fixes?

I know newer versions are better, but there is something that changed.
I use a program called Wheather Clock that replaces the standard clock.

After 1511 the notifications icon was moved after the clock in the task bar. Wheather clock is not working that way. Development of this app stopped long ago.

  3. With Creators Update, Microsoft has made it a little easier to control updates in Windows 10.

If you are running Windows 10 Creators Update (1703), you can delay security updates for up to 30 days. Likewise, you can defer feature updates to 365 days.

    1. Open Settings app. Navigate to Update & security and then Windows Update.

    2. Under Update settings section, click Advanced options link. This action will open Advanced update options page.

    3. Under Choose when updates are installed section, there are three options:

    a) Choose the branch readiness level to determine when feature updates are installed

    b) A feature update includes new capabilities and improvements.

    c) A quality update includes security improvements.

The second option allows you delay feature updates up to 365 days. You can choose any number between 1 and 365 from the drop-down box.

Note that these options are only offered in Windows 10 Pro (1703) and later. There are no such options available in Home.

  5. Thanks @Bree, i have forget to add that as always, these new update settings are exclusive to Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education editions. You might not see these options on Windows 10 Home edition.

    First I'm using Windows 10 1511 Enterprise.
My question wasn't how to stop updates. I want updates and I install them regularly.
Windows 10 Update Assistant is a program that installs itself in C:\Windows10Upgrade
and puts a blue icon on the Desktop.
How to stop that program from downloading and installing?

If you are looking to control the workings of Windows 10 enterprise you should direct your questions to the System administrator managing the system

Then install the updates as you should have notice Windows 10 Update Assistant helps keep all Windows 10 systems secure and to provide the latest features and improvements, the Windows 10 Update Assistant downloads and starts the installation of the latest version of Windows 10. The Windows 10 Update Assistant will be deployed to Windows 10 PCs that have not yet had the latest update installed.

Note This tool does not support Enterprise editions.

    I don't want to upgrade Windows. I want 1511.

I just want to stop Windows 10 Update Assistant to stop installing itself.

I found out windows update KB4023814 is the culprit. It installs Windows 10 Update Assistant.

Is there a way to remove KB4023814? It is not visible in Programs and Features -> Installed Updates

  12. Block Windows 10 update assistant/all updates

    Hi @Josey Wales

I'm thinking maybe Windows 10 Home edition could use registry to delay feature updates up to 365 days. I don't have Windows 10 Home edition to test this if you have one you could delay feature updates up to 365 days from Group Policy and use RegFromApp monitor the Registry changes made by the Group Policy you have set and apply those registry changes to Windows 10 Home edition to found out if feature updates can be delayed.

Obviously this situation started on 18.12.2017 and again on 26.01.2018 when Microsoft pushed the updates KB4023814 and KB4023057.

[Some versions of Windows 10 display a notification to install the latest version]

    So I found a workaround.

This update keeps a copy in C:\WINDOWS\UpdateAssistant from where it installs itself in C:\Windows10Upgrade Also two tasks are created in Task Scheduler: \Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\UpdateAssistant which activates on logon, system reboot, etc. , \Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\UpdateAssistantCalendarRun which activates every 3 days at 10:30 AM.

    1. Uninstal regularly through the control panel "Upgrade Advisor to Windows 10"
    2. Delete the folder C:\WINDOWS\UpdateAssistant
    3. Delete tasks in Task Scheduler \Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\UpdateAssistant and
    \Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\UpdateAssistantCalendarRun

I got 4023814 today too and I rebooted the pc ( but not because of the update ) and when It went back on I found the damn popup. After searching a bit tried your solution and at least it didnt trigger again after rebooting , hopefully it doesnt tomorrow either at the scheduled time ( disabled the tasks instead of purely deleting them just in case.

Did you have any issues with the workaround or all good ? the way they tried to force the update was kinda dirty but I guess they cant try this anymore if it works
