Windows 10: Blu Ray CD Rom does not work with Windows 10 Version 1903

Hi,


I have a:

Dell XPS 8500 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

IntelR CoreTM i7-3770 CPU @ 3.4GHz

Installed RAM 12.0 GB

It also includes a:

Blu Ray CD-ROM drive DVD Writer Device Name: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH30N SCSI CdRom Device


Operates with:

Windows 10 Home

Version 1903

OS Build 18362.836

Installed on 10/26/2019


I don't use this CD ROM device very often and just recently noticed it no longer reads or writes; CDs or DVDs. The last time I successfully used it would have been in Sept or early Oct 2019 prior to Windows update on Oct 26.


When I noticed the problem I immediately checked Device Manager, which shows for the above CD-ROM device, it is working properly, but there were some Events which took place on 10/26/2019 the Windows installation date. These Events and their information are;

I honestly can't tell if the event details imply success or not. :


I immediately checked for device driver updates, for which there were none.


I have also run a Dell Support program which runs diagnostics, including the CD ROM, with no errors. Based on the diagnostic results, I did apply outstanding chipset and BIOS updates, with no problems.


I subsequently ran a Dell BIOS diagnostics test, which included the CD ROM, with no errors.


I have seen a few other posts in the community who also seem to have the same problem, but I am yet to see any suggested solution which resolves the issue.


Is there a solution and/or future Windows 10 update which may resolve this problem?

Blu Ray Media no longer detected

I have just tried deleting the drive, rebooting and allowing Windows to assign a driver, and I am still encountering the same issue.

The drives are listed as BD-Rom Drive within This PC.

If I go to the device managers, and look at the drive's properties, it is listed in the following manner:

Device Type: DVD/CD-Rom Drives

Manufacturer: (Standard CD-Rom drives)

If I click on the driver tab, and select to view the driver it is listed as:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys

It is a Microsoft driver, and the version is 10.0.10586.0 (th2_release. 151029-1700)

If I try to manually switch the driver, every driver listed is a CD-Rom driver (Misumi, Rovi 64 bit, Roxio 64 bit and Standard CD-Rom drivers).

If I click the details tab, the device description is CD-ROM Drive.

Is Windows 10 supposed to use a standard CD Rom driver for every CD/DVD/Blu Ray drive?

 

Blu-ray support?

I have Nero 2015 Platinum and after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 the Blu-ray player stopped working. Nero 2016 being pitched for Windows 10 doesn't include the Blu-ray player. Windows 10 caused some sort of incompatibility with Nero 2015's
Blu-ray player and my LG Blu-ray drives. My device manager sees them only as CD-ROM devices in Windows 10. They were Blu-ray players and burners in Windows 8.1.

Did Hollywood jack up the licensing so much as a means to defeat its inclusion and as a means to defeat copying? Yes Cyber-Link is an option for @ $79 which is a little high for basically a player only.

Playing Blu-ray CD's on Windows requires a Blu-ray supported media player. We suggest searching for any 3rd party programs that support Blu-ray CD's. You may also use this thread for additional reference regarding the issue.
