    Blue screen death: attempted writing to read-only memory


    Hello, My computer went into a windows update, restarting several times in the process and at one point got stuck at a BSOD with the code I've included in the title. I am unable to enter safe mode with networking, with the death screen persisting, but got through to the standard safe mode and ran the mdsched.exe finding no problems.What could have caused this and is there any way to correct it? Thank you!

    BSoD During Windows 10 Factory USB install, attempted write to read only memory (WimFsf.sys)

    I purchased a Windows 10 Home Edition OEM USB Installation kit (factory USB-based install). During the "Enter your license key" step of the install a blue screen of death (BSoD) is displayed and a page access fault is described as the culprit.

    This is a brand new build with top-end hardware (ASUS board, i7 GPU, ASUS GPU, Crucial memory, Samsung SSD). I have tried numerous bios tweaks, swapped the SSD, removed one of the sticks of RAM (thinking it might be RAM related) all to no avail.

    ATTEMPTED EXECUTE OF NOEXECUTE MEMORY Blue Screen of Death error appears when a device driver attempts to execute a program from a non-executable area of the memory. An error in the RAM (Random Access Memory) can also cause this BSOD error.

    If you are using a built-in webcam, then, update the webcam driver and check if that helps.

    • Press 'Windows key + X' and choose 'Device Manager'.
    • Under 'Imaging devices', right-click on the webcam driver and update the driver.

    Also I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article and check if it helps.

    Blue screen of death

    I often get blue screen of death, freezing and tearing screen. Mostly when using Microsoft Edge. Will maybe freeze then jerk back into use 3 or 4 times before the blue screen and the need to restart. Also before restart the Favourites/Reading List/History/Downloads
    pulls out but returns if I attempt to click anything and have to open another Edge window to use. Please help. I read that it may be a driver causing this and found an article to include minidumps. hope this helps.
