    For 2 days now I have not been able get my laptop to function properly. I have tried the options I get on the blue screen, have used the bitlocker code, and I am not getting anywhere. After I push the power button I get the : your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart...screen, ending with Stop code: NTFS File System.

    I have turned it off and on, unplugged it, said several bad words, tried all the advanced options it would let me try. I was unable to back up my files before trying a restore, it said the files were encrypted, then I got to a place where I got a table that was to show 4 libraries of files for back up but it showed 0 files and would not let me do anything. Each time I restart the thing I get the blue screen...restart that loops, and changing advanced options, one time I was able to get to the Dell system support assist which said there were no problems with the laptop. The microsoft assessment said there were problems with all 3 areas it tested I believe of microsoft files, I cannot recall what those areas were exactly.

    I got to the X :\windows\system32\cmd.exe prompt once but did not know what to do there.

    The laptop is unplugged now. Is there a way around these blue screens that just loop and don't go anywhere? Was there an update that went wrong? Is this a virus?

    • Did you get a STOP code?
    • Did you install any hardware or driver recently?

    Jeferis,

    There are a lot of factors for this matter to occur. To isolate the issue, we have some questions for you:


    • What activity have you done to
      trigger the NTFS and FAT FILE SYS loop?

    • were there any error messages?

    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    It is possible that the
    Boot
    Sequence were corrupted by the previous activity which
    triggered the Blue Screen Error and the loop. We recommend that you perform these
    suggested troubleshooting
    and see if there are any changes:

    Startup Repair.


    To access the
    Startup Repair Screen, turn off the
    PC 3-4 times(force shutdown),
    while on the Blue screen Error. This will route you to the
    Startup repair screen:

    Advanced Boot Options > click Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt

    and run the following command:

    Run SFC Scan:  

    SFC
    will
    scan
    and
    run
    an
    automatic repair
    to any
    corrupted system files
    that it will detect. We suggest that you perform it twice. To run an
    SFC scan, follow these steps:  


    • Run
      Command Prompt as Administrator.  

    • Type
      sfc /scannow
      and hit
      Enter.   

    Boot Record:

    This will fix the corruptions on
    boot records or boot
    sequence. To run this command, follow these steps:


    • Run
      Command Prompt as Administrator.

    • Type the following command:  

      • Bootrec /fixMBR  

      • Bootrec /fixBoot

      • Bootrec /rebuildBCD

    Update us on how it goes.
