Blue spinning pin wheel, program not responding?

For the last three weeks or so I have been getting the blue spinning pin wheel popping up next to my mouse cursor intermittently during general desktop activity an it is rather irritating. I understand that this may be a program not responding. I am trying to capture the culprit in task manager and this stage I think it may be either Windows problem reporting.exe or Windows desktop manager. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this further?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 - Busy wheel flashing next to cursor

The blue busy wheel next to the cursor is spinning once a second since I installed Windows 10. This was not happening in Windows 8.1.

How do I stop the wheel from spinning?

  3. How do I go back from windows 10 to 8 with no start menu?

    Thanks for that.

how long should it take? ( it's been on a blue screen "restarting" with the spinning wheel for 2 hours )

I would look in the Event Viewer

Once you see the spinning wheel, open Event Viewer > Windows Logs

There's 5 sections there. Look at each one. The most recent log for each section is listed first. There's a lot of logs in there. But hopefully you can narrow down what could be causing this. =)

Should I be looking for a new entry being generated in event viewer right as the blue wheel starts spinning? How do I associate the spinning to any particular event?

Yes, you should look in there for new entries once the blue circle shows up.
And that would be the small challenge: seeing which event that could refer to.
Maybe you can keep a mental note to always check the Event Viewer every time the blue circle shows up, and see if you can find a certain similarity in the Event Viewer of that event. It will be a slight challenge, yet that's what I would do.
Maybe other people can reply with their ideas of what they can suggest also.

I can't seem to see any particular event that is updating anywhere near the same frequency as the spinning wheel, the closet may be ESENT. Will have to google that one, not sure what it is.

svchost (3292,G,0) The beta feature EseDiskFlushConsistency is enabled in ESENT due to the beta site mode settings 0x800000.

P.S. The wheel is literally popping up every 5 seconds or so, highly irritating. *Mad

Run the beta log collector and post a zip into the thread.
    log collector v2-beta08.zip
    (extract > open)
Once you have confirmed that the posted logs display the logs you can then perform the next step:
In case the problem is related to the operating system you can start with an in place upgrade repair.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade Windows 10 Tutorials
    Download Windows 10
Let us know if the problem was fixed by the in place upgrade repair or whether the problem got better, worse, or no change.

    Thanks @zbook, will report back.

In the mean time I just rebooted and played around on the desktop for a bit without the browser and haven't had a pin wheel yet. Could be browser related but could also be a misbehaving app/service etc.

Is there anything I should look for in the log collector logs?

The logs I'll troubleshoot. When an in place upgrade repair is performed some of the logs disappear. So this will collect some of the logs in case we need to refer to them.
Run this log collector first as it may go back in time for a longer period for the event logs:
BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums
Then run the beta log collector using extract then open
Post the zips into the thread.
The beta log collector collects more files for troubleshooting however it may not go back in time as far as the DM log collector.
Then view each of the log collector results either on the desktop or in the thread to confirm that the logs were generated.
Then you can perform the in place upgrade repair.

Ok so you want me to run the DM log collector (new one you linked) and then the log collector beta again? Is any user sensitive data included in the logs?

Blue spinning pin wheel, program not responding?

The log collectors should collect: msinfo32, dxdiag, mini dumps, hosts, install, uninstall, drivers, event viewer logs, etc.
There should be no personal files collected.
You can look at threads in the BSOD forum to see what is collected as all threads have it posted.
Alternatively you can view the collected files on the desktop.

The log indicated that there were BSOD that were 7E, and WHEA 0x124 but there were no current mini or memory dump files.
WHEA 0x124 typically indicates a hardware malfunctioning problem.
The drive has a bad block.
    Windows failed fast startup.
