Windows 10: Bluetooth Adapters not working - Unknown USB device (Device descriptor request failed)

Hi, I am having some issues getting ANY bluetooth adapters installed on Windows 10 and would appreciate any assistance.


I initally had purchased a cheapo eBay Bluetooth 4.0 adapter around 1 year ago and it's worked fine ever since. However, recently I am not able to get it to work properly. Windows detects it as a generic bluetooth device and I can see and scan bluetooth devices fine with it. But when I try to pair any bluetooth device it gets stuck on "connecting" and never connects. I assumed it was the cheapo adapter and decided to buy another one. I bought the TP-Link UB400 from Amazon, a good brand and premium quality Bluetooth adapter. Having tried that today, I can't even get the thing to recognise properly. It shows as a "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". So I decided to try both adapters on my other desktop PC downstairs. Both plug and play perfectly fine and both work and pair with my Bluetooth devices. So the issue is not the hardware, it is the software on my Windows PC (probs caused by me somehow).


I would really appreciate if someone can guide me on troubleshooting steps on how I can fix this, I am a developer and setup tons of tools on Windows (including stuff like WSL) as well as my work MacBook. It will be a great deal of effort for me to run another clean OS install for just this Bluetooth issue. The PC downstairs detects the adapater sas Generic devices too and works fine, the downstairs PC is Windows 10 1803 and the upstairs PC (the one that doesn't work) is Windows 10 1903.


Background Info:

I built my PC myself over 5 years ago and it is pretty high spec, I am a software developer and annually reformat my entire Windows OS (clean install).


Having only completed my format a few months ago, I would say that the system should really be in a good state (i.e. I have not screwed anything up - as far as I know anyway).


The only stupid thing I think I could have done, was about a month ago when I couldn't get my XBox controller to work, I uninstalled the driver that was showing up for it in Device Manager, which obviously caused a lot of issues. However, I managed to fix that by getting windows to run plug and play again - so I don't think it is related.

Maybe it's time to step back from the current efforts, and start over. I suggest you read over this excellent tutorial and try all of its steps: [Solved] Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) for Windows 10 - Driver Easy. The one that may provide you with some easy relief is the one where you uninstall the device whose descriptor is failing, reboot, and see what happens when device enumeration recurs during boot-up. If you're lucky, it will fix itself.

When I connect my Tascam 202 MKVII cassette player to record through USB port using Windows 10 OS, the USB port shows this message and does not recognize the hardware.

May I please know, How to get rid of this issue?

my bios is and custom unlocked bios (latest version) (thanks to Bios Mods -The Best BIOS Update and Modification Source ) because of lenovo hardware whitlist maybe thats causing the problem???
