Windows 10: Bluetooth audio does not work

I need help to make my bluetooth audio devices work in Windows 11. When I connect one of them to the computer, a bunch of weird things happen: the audio mixer does not open. The speaker icon on the system tray becomes the icon with an x over it similar to the icon for when one mutes the audio, but in red, however left clicking on it opens up the Troubleshooting window; right clicking does nothing; hovering over it prompts the message "No audio devices detected"; the Problems Solving window says the audio mixer should be adjusted, but when I click on "open audio mixer", nothing happens.
