Windows 10: Bluetooth starts then stops and disappears from device manager [Windows 10]

ASUS ROG STRIX x470-I GAMING mobo yes it has bluetooth, I used it often a few months ago

PC



Bluetooth used to work flawlessly but I haven't used it for a windows update or 2. Now it will work fine upon restart for a few minutes then appears to crash completely. Bluetooth devices disconnect and it appears bluetooth itself crashes.


Steps taken:

0 Windows update - no updates found, all up to date


1 Troubleshooter

- after a restart when bluetooth is available, no issues detected.

-after bluetooth crash, "Bluetooth is not available on this device" this is not true, obviously.


2Device Manager

- after a restart, Bluetooth shows up. After a few minutes upon crash, I have to click "show hidden devices".

- I have tried to update the realtek bluetooth adapter using the driver from the mobo manufacturer as well as a rollback of the driver which doesnt appear to do anything


3 services.msc

-bluetooth support services - startup set to automatic, always says running. if i manually stop and start the service, no change in bluetooth status. restart option does nothing as well.

-bluetooth audio gateway service and bluetoothUserService_some string of letters and #'s - both will stop/start fine. no reported errors.


4 cmd

- sfc /scannow - no reported errors

- DSIM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and ScanHealth and RestoreHealth - no reported errors from check and scan, restore does nothing unsurprisingly.

Bluetooth disappeared from Device Manager

I have the same problem as Benjamin with an Acer Aspire Switch 10. Was working fine with Bluetooth speaker. Now all trace of Bluetooth has disappeared from Device Manager. The Bluetooth troubleshooter tells me my tablet is not compatible with bluetooth!
I have tried re-installing the Broadcom Bluetooth Driver from the Acer site but to no avail and tried most of the other suggestions including windows update listed in Benjamin's post.

Appreciate any help

Thank you for responding.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing with detecting the Bluetooth drivers in Device Manager.

As you have already tried with start the Bluetooth service, run troubleshooter and etc., I suggest you to try the below and check.

I suggest you to check for the HP utilities that are installed in your device and uninstall the one related to Bluetooth and check if it helps.

Steps:　

• Press Windows + x key to open a task list from the bottom left corner of the screen.
• Select Control Panel.
• Select Programs and Features.
• Select for one of the utility from HP that is related to Bluetooth, right click on it and
  Uninstall.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: Troubleshoot

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Drive. Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter

You may follow the steps and check if it helps in resolving the issue, as the device might be hidden.

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click on Device Manager.
• Click on View.
• Click on Show Hidden Devices.
• Search for the Bluetooth device.
• Right click on the Bluetooth device and click
  uninstall.
