Not necessarily, you can easily obtain the iso from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench and upgrade from that one (that's what I did). You won't need to reinstall anything, Windows will just reset some basic preferences (I remember I had to reinstall my customized pointers and a very few minor things). *Smile

I got Windows 10 with OS Build 10586.164. Blurry text issue exists. Confirmed in Chrome, Firefox, Office 2016. Does not seem to exist in Windows Explorer.

    Main monitor: 3840x2160 @125%.
    Second monitor: 2560x1600 @100%.

Blurry text occurs on the second monitor. If I set the second monitor to 125% text looks good.

Is the fix (you said it's fixed) from 10576 not included in 10586.164?

    Hi,

Just registered on here because I am pulling my hair out with this issue. I have been using Windows 7 (I've defeated all edge enhancement and smoothing which you can do with a few tweaks. My eyes have never gotten on with Cleartype).

When I upgrade to Windows 10 I just for the life of me cannot get things looking 'sharp'.

I have tried turning cleartype off and changing fonts to fonts such as Ariel which work better without any type of edge enhancement but now my Windows 10 is just a mis-match of clean clear lines (desktop icons and explorer look great) and windows with blur (some settings screens and Windows 10 specific pages look blurry) and generally no matter what I do I can't get happy with it.

Within Edge and Chrome some things look great and other fonts just render horribly. In Chrome I had to use a tweak to disable DirectWrite and DirectWrite-UI which I don't need to do in Windows 7. This leaves most pages fine but with the odd font looking awful and pages like History and Settings still looking blurry. Its just a mess. *Sad

There seems to be no way to tweak Windows 10 like I could with Windows 7 to get rid of all edge enhancements and cleartype stuff.

I've tried upgrading to Windows 10 3 or 4 times now and just end up reverting back to Windows 7 because I cannot get the display looking how I want it. I've tried reading through this thread and there seems to be all kinds of different fixes for different issues so I am not actually sure which can help me.

    I have a Dell 24" (1920x1200) screen.

Any ideas on a set of instructions that will help?

    Thanks,

Blurred and washed out text seems to be a big problem.
My grey text are very light, white areas are over bright.

I am now using high contrast themes. When you get my age your eyes aren't
    like they were.

I'm running at 119% DPI, if I use 120% or above the Home button in Edge
    disappears?

I can't change font size either. I reboot and it won't take.
Clearly there seems to be some issues in windows 10 hope they can fix.
Seems they built this touchscreen for tablets and forgot about PC's.

Running 1680 x 1050 with AMD Radeon 6900 latest drivers and
    Asus VE monitor.

Different scaling levels on monitors causing blurry text seems to be exactly the problem. When I switch both monitors to the same scaling it looks good. 4k on 15inch at 125% is not really usable so I actually lowered resolution to full hd to keep both laptop and external monitor at 125%. Would be nice to have a real fix for that though...

I believe you are correct and I have determined that also.

But, that does not explain why certain standard features don't work for some people
like changing font size, text in some apps is still grayed out even in high contrast and other really basic
stuff. I have a high end monitor with a great AMD graphics card and its trash except in high contrast.
My wife has NVidia graphics card and its not much better.

On my Asus monitor I had to play with the setting for about an hour before I became
comfortable after coming from windows 7. Not what I expected.

I'm really disappointed that a software company wants to determine my device by
not supporting what we all are use too over the years. I also have some pet peeves
about how windows 10 really buries stuff in the menus, like setting up "normal" users
    not MSN ones.

when you get my age you want to be able to see this stuff, now its harder.

    Hi all,

I come from windows 7, and since last yesterday I'm using my new laptop with windows 10 Pro. I lost almost 1 day trying to fix the problem of blurry text in a Dell Monitor 24" (1920x1200) @ 100% (recommended). At the begging I thought it was because the graphic card, but not.

The solution I applied? Change to 125% the external monitor (not recommended option). The blurry text issue was solved, but it is a workaround, not a real solution. I see programs bigger than I expected, and in my editor to code (sublime text 3) I have to modify a config file to see the same number of lines that I saw with windows 7.

The laptop has resolution 1920x1080 @ 125% (recommended). The blurry text issue was horrible.

I have read in this forum that issue is because the 2 monitors have different scales (125% to 100%). Then changing external monitor to 125% solve the problem. I have to try what happens if I set laptop screen and external monitor to 100%. Now I'm not at home.

I'm very disappointed and frustrated because of this. I have chosen to pay for windows 10 with my new laptop, and the blurry text issue is not acceptable. With the same monitor (2 HDMI ports) I use a 8 years old desktop computer connected by HDMI with windows 7 and I see the text and program windows better than with my new laptop with windows 10 connected by HDMI as well.

I have the same issue. Prior to win10, my dual Dell 30" 2560x1600 monitors had amazingly crisp fonts. Since winddows 10, many apps fonts are so blurred, they are unusable for any lenght of time. It seems that MS have crippled the desktop fonts to make it more compatible with windows phones and tablets. This is ironic considering relatively speaking, noone uses windows phones and tablets. The only solution I have found is to make all apps with blurred text not use the blurry scaling MS are using. to do this:
    • right click on the short cut of the app with blurred fonts
    • hit properties
    • compatibility tab
    • check "disable display scaling on high DPI Settings"
this is not a solution, it is a poor workaround. The full solution is to go with Mac who don't render desktop apps for tens of millions of users unusable for the sake of a hand full of windows phone and tablet users. A second best solution is to upgrade back to windows 7. Appart from fast boot up and shutdown, I dont think windows 10 adds a single feature or benefit to desktop users, only ever worse UI and UX (for business users at least)

While this is marked "solved" it really isn't. I have found no
solution. I'm using high contrast, as that is the only way I can
see the type on the screen with my bad eyes.

While this works, a lot of web pages & aps are missing text & graphics.

Wish I had my windows 7 back now, such a disappointment.

  12. I would agree that this isn't official fixed for me either.

I have a GTX 1070 and an ultrawide LG 2K display, and a second BenQ 1080p monitor.

I had no issues with windows 10, until I performed my annual fresh install. (I believe my first installation my have been 8.1 first to get the free windows 10 upgrade they were offering last year.) The first thing I noticed was how certain elements like device manager, utorrent, installation splash screens were all fuzzy.

The only thing that has worked for me is installing the program that runs at startup (I think its on page 4-5 of this thread) but it works! My screens are crystal clear. The one thing I have noticed is under 'display settings' my scaling slider is greyed out and my 2k monitor is set at 225% and my 1080p is 175%, but it looks great so I'm not complaining. I haven't tested any games yet though, so hopefully that doesn't interfere.

    TLDR
The XP Explorer DPI fix worked for me.
I registered just to make this comment.

Edit: Just noticed that while switching ports (in my multiport setup) made things 90% better, I now notice some areas (such as some of the windows settings screens) are it's still not what it's should be.

    Hi guys,

Just signed up to contribute to this issue. I just bought a new Windows 10 system with two different resolution monitors and have spent hours trying searching around with no luck... then it dawned on me, hmm, there are 5 ports for displays on my system, 1 DIV and below it a line of 4 ports (left to right): DisplayPort - HDMI - DisplayPort - DisplayPort. So I thought, I wonder if the first two are for one monitor and the last two for the other, as I was using port 1 and 2 (which still doesn't make sense since the last two are the same). Anyway, I switched to using port 2 and 3 and that worked instantly. Both displays are at their native resolution and scaled to 100% with all default settings.

    System: HP Omen - Windows 10 64bit
Graphics Card: Nividia GeForce GTX 960
Displays: 1920x1080 (port 2 HDMI), 2560x1440 (primary display port 3 DisplayPort)

Anyway, I think it's displaying correctly, however, it's still not as clear as I would like. I've tried messing around with the ClearType and sure, it can make it more crisp, but then it also becomes more pixelated. Ignorance is bliss, if you're not in the position to get a new 4K display then I suggest you don't stop to look at one and skip straight to the cheap one on sale. lol I try to make myself feel better trying to convince myself that unless a 4K display is at least 40 inches then I would have to scale up anyway and then what's the point if I lose all that desktop space (unless you're a gamer of like watching movies, of course, I just need to space for multi-tasking).

Disclaimer: I need glasses really bad, so it might actually be worse now. lol

  15. Just a heads-up: As of today, the only thing that truly works is creating a task with that .bat file posted here on page 5. All the other solutions do NOT work correctly for me. I find it insulting that Microsoft has not fixed this issue in a proper way yet.
