Windows 10: Boot (BSOD) errors 0xC000000F and 0xc0000225 on encrypted drives (solved)

Hi fellow readers,


I recently encountered a BSOD boot error on my (Veracrypt) encrypted laptop.


The initial error code I got was 0xc000000f.

Some options were also shown:


Press Enter to try again, (Which does nothing)

Press f8 for Startup Settings (Which does nothing)


and an option to go into bootmenu/bios.


Sometimes after hitting f8 I got the error message/code:


File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc0000225


The solution: change the boot sequence/manager in the bios, or through the boot manager (f12 on my Acer)

I don’t know how, but after an Windows update the sequence was changed to boot the hdd first, instead of the Veracrypt bootloader. So the winload file (and other associated files or processes) were unreadable because of the encryption.


When the Veracrypt bootloader is chosen as the first boot option in the bootmanager, or the win bootmanager is set as the first boot option in the bios, the computer will boot again normally.

0xc0000225 boot error

For some odd reason when I turned on my computer today, I was greeted with the error 0xc0000225 stating that my NLS files were corrupt/missing. I am Running Vista x64 and so far have tried the following:

Replace NLS files
Windows repair utility
Restored an old working registry backup
Tried booting with different ram configurations
Created new BCD / Boot
Chkdsk


Google suggests something about apci, but my gigabyte ud3p doesn't have such an option (already vista compatible) and it seems to only occur to people who are initially installing and not people who already have a working copy.
