I followed your instructions but Macrium could not find an operating system. See image below.




I pressed next anyway and selected C: and pressed next again.





I ran the fix and everything seems to have worked fine. I then restarted my computer.





I was greeted with a new error *Sad





Any idea on what to do next?

I am currently doing an error scan with no damaged blocks after 15 minutes. I will leave it on and come back later and post the result.

So to summarize I currently have this error when trying to boot my computer.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system 32\hal.dll.

 

Getting an error “Boot configuration data is missing or contains errors”.

Original Title: Windows 10

My Dell Vostro 1720 laptop BCD became corrupted after I downloaded Windows 10 upgrade from Microsoft. Windows 10 launched and performed perfectly until I rebooted the PC. This produced a black Windows Boot Manager display with the message “Boot configuration
data is missing or contains errors”. I contacted Microsoft about this. And the problem was corrected. Unfortunatly, I needed further assistance in re-establishing the windows product key. Again, Microsoft resolved the matter.

I have been running Window 10 successfully for 3 weeks until this morning the black message “Boot configuration data is missing or contains errors” has returned.

I ran bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /scanos
and bootrec /rebuildbcd to no avail.

Note: bootrec /rebuildbcd found 5 "windows.old installations on the D: drive. At each prompt "Add to boot list" I entered NO for each "windows.old" installation.

I hope Microsoft can resolve this for me once and for all.

The case number I was asked to retain is: 1325120911.

Boot up KYHI's Rescue disk then run Macrium. Click on "restore" tab then click on "Fix Windows Boot Problems". Reboot to see if the problem is fixed.
