  1. Boot Drive Cloning Question due to Startup Issues

I needed to upgrade my 240GB NVMe drive to a 1TB of the same type, so I bought a docking station and downloaded Macrium Reflect trial and followed the instructions on videos of how to clone drives. The cloning with growing the boot partition to expand to the new drive size went fine, no errors. I noticed though that the system reserved also grew by about 4 times.I didn't give it much concern, and just swapped out the drives. But when Windows tried to boot, I got this:I tried system repair and that failed. As a last ditch, I tried booting of the original drive by putting it in the docking station

    :)

Making a bootable external clone of a windows 10 drive

I want to create an clone of my existing windows 10 computer to run on a different computer, issue being neither have a second memory slot so it must be external

Simply cloning doesn't work due to windows not allowing itself to boot from a usb. So i need some other way to make windows 10, bootable from an external drive, and have ALL the files from my current hard drive

Size or compression is not an issue as my external drive is larger than the one i am attempting to clone

Any suggestions appreciated. Ive used macrium, clonezilla, and rufus to clone, so its not an issue there. But when booting i get the "inaccessible boot drive" error no matter what. Which is specific to the clone obviously due to clonezilla being a boot drive

  3. Need Help Booting from Cloned Windows 11 HDD and File Transfer Query

I'm currently facing an issue that has me stumped and in need of some guidance regarding a Windows OS cloning and booting problem.

Here's the situation: I used Macrium Reflect to clone my Windows 11 operating system from my internal SSD onto an external HDD. My intention was to downgrade back to Windows 10. However, upon attempting to boot from the cloned drive, I encounter the dreaded "inaccessible boot device" error. As a result, the system automatically boots back into my original SSD, which currently runs Windows 10 (after the attempted downgrade).

I've tried several troubleshooting steps, including adjusting BIOS settings, checking for driver compatibility, and attempting different boot options without success. I'm seeking advice on how to resolve this boot issue and successfully boot from the cloned drive containing Windows 11.

Furthermore, if booting directly from the cloned drive proves unsuccessful, I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to transfer files and applications (if possible, I understand some apps may not function properly due to the OS difference) from the Windows 11 cloned drive to my internal SSD running Windows 10. Doing this without manually copying each file and searching for its respective location would be immensely helpful.

Any insights, suggestions, or step-by-step guidance would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Boot Drive Cloning Question due to Startup Issues

Cloned WIN10/64 Boot drive will not Boot! Boot volume stays OFFLINE

    Hello,

I have been grappling with an issue for a couple of days now and getting nowhere fast.

I have been helping my brother with his PC and we suspect that his SSD drive may be failing.

I used the personal edition of macrium reflect to clone his SSD onto a 1TB spindle drive - the clone worked fine and completed successfully.

However, when trying to boot off the 1TB disk, I get a blue screen saying windows cannot boot.

Using the startup repair CD - it says it is diagnosing errors, then this may take an hour to complete, then "startup repair couldn't repair your PC".

I have then used DISKPART and can see the boot volume is OFFLINE. The disk is ONLINE.

Trying to put the volume ONLINE fails. with the message "diskpart could not online the selected volume" I tried the OVERRIDE switch but it does not apply to the ONLINE command.

I have then tried the BOOTREC command sequence and /FIXMBR completed successfully but /FIXBOOT returns the cryptic response:

    "The device is not ready".

So having selected the disk then used the command "list volume" I get

Volume 1 Partition 299GB Healthy Offline

There is no drive letter assigned but even if I assign one, it makes no difference.

If I assign a drive letter to the volume having booted another machine then attaching this disk, I can see all the data in the typical C drive volume - it is all there, just not bootable.

I have cloned many drives in the past with macrium, cloning from spindle to SSD, SSD to spindle, spindle to spindle and SSD to SSD and all have been fine, just this one.

The original donor SSD drive that has been cloned seems to be absolutely fine and works ok- but for how long?

Does anyone have any suggestions that I have not already tried?!

    Thanks
