  1. Boot drive is on SSD, but System drive is detected on the HDD (only 1 OS is installed)

I have Windows installed on an SSD, but as shown, the system drive is the HDD.

This happened after I dual-booted windows and linux (with linux being on a partition on the HDD) and then removed the linux partition all together. This resulted to an inability to boot into windows, so I used easyBCD to add it to the boot list and get selected automatically. This results in a slow booting and various bugs around the system.

Many software that allow OS migration detect the HDD as the OS drive, and so does the mbr2gpt /convert /allowFullOS command in CMD.

Is there a way to resolve this without formatting / reinstalling ?

  2. SSD Drive as Boot Drive and HDD Drive as Storage, how do I do it?

Remove the HDD. Install Windows on SSD. Then insert the HDD. Now SSD should be your boot drive with HDD as a storage drive.

    If Windows doesn't boot,

    1) Check Boot priority in BIOS and set your SSD on top of the list.

    2) If still doesn't work, then create a 200MB Fat32 partition on the HDD(call it whatever you want) then boot into the windows 10 installer via a usb, launch command prompt with SHIFT + F10 and run the following:

    bcdboot C:\Windows /l en-en /s B: /f UEFI

where B: is the drive letter for the 200MB partition (it could be any other drive letter for you).

Note: the drive letter with windows could be different, so either poke around command prompt to find out or launch DISKPART and run show volumes to find the partition.

The only downside to this solution is that if the HDD fails you lose boot capabilities. To get around this you could create a ISO of the 200mb boot drive and upload it for safe keeping and burn it to a usb flash disk in case of emergencies.

Windows 10 Dual Drive (HDD and SSD) Boot issue

    Hi,

I am running a Windows 10 system on a Desktop. I added a 1TB Sandisk SSD and installed Window 10 on it. When my system boots, I get a screen asking me to select which operating system to run: Either the old HDD version, or the newly installed SSD version.
When I select the newly installed SSD version, the system runs for a while and then I get random BSOD failures. Never the same BSOD Stop Code twice. If I choose the old HDD version, the system boots (albiet very slowly) and remains stable. When I use the BIOS
settings to make the SSD the priority boot drive, upon re-boot the machine reports that I must provide a bootable source to continue. It seems the SSD is not bootable, and the system will only boot from the HDD. I want to ultimately make the SSD my system
boot drive and the HDD simply a data drive. Any thoughts on action I should take?

  4. Boot drive is on SSD, but System drive is detected on the HDD (only 1 OS is installed)

SSD drive as primary drive(250gb) and HDD as storage hard drive(500gb), but system does not boot.

Does the system boot with just the SSD connected?

Yes, the system boots only with SSD connected.
