Boot failure following windows 10 feature update

Hi I have a PC with Windows 10 64 bit. I ran a feature update that stuck 48% even after leaving overnight. With no other option I turned off and rebooted hoping that it would repair/roll back the update. Alas I am now in a pickle. BSOD here's what I've tried so far. Hopefully someone can help me!

    Troubleshoot Advanced Options

    1. start-up repair
'start-up couldn't repair your pc' logfile written to c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttrail.txt

    2. cmd prompt
works sees 1 disk with several volumes see screenshot. Interestingly the cmd prompt on opening reads x:\windows\system32> not c drive?

    3. UEFI Firmware Settings
works and takes me into Aptio set-up utility with various options main, advanced, boot, power security, exit

    4. system restore
error message 'no restore points have been created on your computer's system drive' I thought windows automatically did this before commencing installation of windows updates or major windows updates like feature updates

    5. uninstall updates
tried uninstalling quality update - 'we ran into a problem and won't be able to uninstall the latest quality update of windows'
tried uninstalling feature update - 'we ran into a problem and won't be able to uninstall the latest feature update of windows. Try resetting your PC instead troubleshoot > reset this PC'

    6. System image recovery
Windows cannot find a system image on this computer

    Troubleshoot Dell backup and recovery
We detected that the disk layout has changed and we are not able to recreate all partitions as they were originally. We suggest you boot n an external media you might have created to recreate all the partitions and reinstall your o/s to the latest ..... or use advanced which offers 'restore this device to a specific point in time' or 'factory refresh - only restores the system partition'. Only tried the first option which displays factory image 2014. Didn't run for fear of losing personal data and installed licenced apps etc.

    :)

  2. Windows 8 failure configuring updates and reverting

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

"Great post! I found a similar one. I would like to point out that you may want to edit your OP...

    1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

    2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."

It was a helpful post. Thanks!

    windows 10 slow boot

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.

Boot failure following windows 10 feature update

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
