Windows 10: Boot Menu Issue

Installed Windows 10 and Insider Preview onto a new computer yesterday with a dual-boot configuration. No real issues other than my Insider Preview will not display the boot menu unless it's in legacy mode (Windows 10 works as expected). Tried everything I can think of with the boot files and still the issue persists. Not worth getting too worked up over something that is really just a cosmetic annoyance but I was wondering if anyone had any possible ideas to resolve it.

This post is about a Dell N5050 laptop configured to dualboot Win10x64 and Ubuntu.

Laptop upgraded from Win7x64 in mid-Mar'16. I installed it on top of existing, rather than doing a clean Install. Everything worked great for the 6 months prior to the automated (and unexpected) Anniversary Update Install.

Even though I have set the default bootmenupolicy in BCD to Standard, I am only presented with the GUI ("Standard") boot menu upon Cold Boot ...
restarts still result in a Text-based ("Legacy") boot menu ... and the only way that I have found to make
that work is the F8 -> F7 Workaround.

I need a way to configure my system to always present the GUI boot menu.

Since shortly after the installation of the Anniversary Update, this laptop has been afflicted with the 0xc000021a Bug. I thought that the only way for me to boot into Win10 was via the F8 -> F7 Workaround ... which means that auto-restarts (that occur
in some Updates) lock the system at the 0xc000021a error screen.

I discovered three things by accident today; [1] I onlyvery rarely actually Cold Boot this laptop. [2] When I Cold Boot this laptop I am (apparently)
always presented with the GUI Boot Menu. [3] The GUI Boot Menu
is not afflicted by the 0xc000021a Bug. WHOA!

Now ... if I can just find a reliable method to always be presented with the GUI Boot Menu, I
may be able to reliably install the bigger Updates (like CREATORS) that require multiple automated reboots.

BCDBoot Command-Line Options

 

Gave that switch a shot and no go. My initial thought was just recreating the boot files with bcdboot should be enough. Really beginning to doubt it's a boot file issue.

 

Intel display driver (courtesy of WU) is causing the issue.
