Windows 10: boot menu was not working on toshiba laptop

I have Toshiba laptop and unable to open boot menu. Laptop stuck at recovery environment. I have tried startup settings, startup repair, system restore point not available, reset was failed both by keeping all files and removing all filesthere was no option to open UEFI settings in recovery environment, there is no option to use a device in recovery environment.I have tried F1 to F12 keys Esc and Del keys too to open the Boot menu. However, it is not opening the boot menu.Please help. I have bootable windows 10 USB drive. Help its urgent.Note: I do not know the model number of toshiba lap

Toshiba Laptop Stuck at Boot Menu

I understand the inconvenience you are facing with the laptop which is stuck at boot menu.

1. What is the model number of the laptop?
   
2. What is the error you have received when you try to boot the computer to desktop?
   

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if that helps.

Method 1

Unplug all the external devices and then try to boot the computer to desktop.

Method 2

Unplug the AC adapter to your laptop. Remove the Battery. Hold power button for 30 seconds. Then leave it set for 15-20 plus minutes (Letting it sit longer won't really help to much) and then just plug back in ONLY AC adapter and see if it shows the
hard drive in the BIOS.

Method 3

Start your PC in safe mode

I suggest you to refer the article “Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10”
for the steps.

If the issue still persists I suggest you to refer the article Recovery options in Windows 10
for more information.

Note: This article includes Reset your PC and
Use installation media to reinstall Windows 10 as the options. I suggest you to ignore these options, since there is a chances of data loss. This will remove all your personal files, apps and drivers you installed, apps and customizations from
your PC manufacturer, and changes you made to settings.

No USB ports working on toshiba laptop

Hi guys,

Got an old Toshiba laptop, satellite l500d pslk0a-00r009
Its old and doesn't officially support win10. However I have it installed and everything works fine except USB. All the ports seem completely dead, plugging in a USB mouse I get no light on the mouse. USB flash drives don't work either. This was previously working under win7.

The issue seems to be I don't have "Generic USB hub" in device manager. Have tried to manually install it using add legacy hardware but it wont take. I have several USB root hub and others listed, but not the generic hub.

Here's what I have tried so far:

Uninstall all USB device in device managers and reboot
Confirmed BIOS is latest version
tried both legacy and compatibly USB mode in BIOS
Download and install generic win10 USB drivers
Disable USB power saving mode
Installed toshiba's service center, no updates available
Ran MS troubleshooter/fixit

I think the next step is to give up, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

Unable to Boot to BIOS Menu on Toshiba Laptop

Welcome to TenForums Geoff.
I have a Toshiba laptop (system one in my specs below). The bios skips the 'F2 for bios, F12 for boot menu' screen if you are resuming from hibernation. Windows 10's Fast Startup is a form of hibernation, so you either have to turn it off, or use Restart from the power button when you want to see the bios options. A Restart performs a full startup from cold and should (briefly) offer the F2/F12 options on the Toshiba logo screen.

I did (once) get myself in a situation where it didn't. *Sad

I had set the bios boot speed for 'fast'. Not being able to get into the bios, the only way to turn that off was with the Toshiba HWSetup tool.





If you do not have the HWSetup tool, go to the Toshiba support site and enter your serial number. You can download the one for your machine from there. The W7 one should still work in W10 (mine does).
