  1. Boot Problem using Orico eSATA

    2017-0915 Boot Problem
I am using an ORICO 5 bay External Drive Enclosure
which I purchased from Newegg back in 2014-15 ?
I have StarTech PCI Express eSATA/SATA 6Gbps controller Asmedia
    card that supports port multiplier
It booted 5 drives up in sequence from 1 to 5.

Everything was working fine until a Malware caused me to have
to reset/reinstall Win 10. it will now only recognize my internal HDD drives and hang the boot driver.

Since I am using the Orico 5 Bay in Win 10 eSATA/SATA, I'm told I don't need an Asmedia driver.
I AM USING THE eSATA OPTION - NOT THE USB3/0.

However, the only way I can boot my pc, I have to turn off my 5 bay server and
boot without it and then use the Win 10 Device manager to check for new disk.
Then after about a minute it brings up all 5 drives.

Yet, I have also been getting blue screen errors saying "Stop Code, Driver Power State failure."
My power setting in the bios is set to optimum for PC.
Then it reboots my PC. Then I have to wait till it hangs on boot, manual shut down and use my workaround
in the last paragraph. But, it only does this when the Orico 5 bay is on and running.

Therefore right now I cannot use my Orico 5 Bay effectively without problems.
Most of my Movie and Music production files are on the bay.

  2. How Can I Get Windows 10 to "See" my External Hard Drive in the eSata Port?

To use ESATA with Windows 10 on my computers, this works:

    1) shut down.

    2) plug the ESATA drive into the PC, and turn on the ESATA drive.

    3) after the drive is spinning up, turn on the PC.

    4) if the PC freezes during boot, reboot it, and it usually detects ESATA correctly and boots normally.

    5) always keep ESATA plugged into the PC and turned on before you start the PC if you want to continue using it.

Please let me know what happens for you?

    Thanks,

    J

  3. Can I use a External Hardrive as the booting device, without risk of wiping my files.

No, you can't use a External Hard disk as a boot device unless its eSATA. If it supports eSATA, you could always install Windows 10 on the external drive without it affecting data on the local disks installed.
