A nice feature of Mac is that you can import a previous machine image into a new box and everything migrates over, mimicking the same boot and user experience of the previous machine.

Is that possible in Win 10?

I purchased a new Win 10 machine and it came with Windows installed. I booted up and went through the standard initialization, linking the new laptop to my MS online Account Office 365, Windows Home User.

Then, I imported a full backup using system restore tools, like this.

I know it worked because I can see my files under the previous user name associated with my account on the original windows machine.

My question: Is there a way to migrate over a previous version so that it boots and behaves like the previous image other than usingAdvanced System Restore?

    :)

    Help with USB Boot Image

I am trying to boot from my USB flash drive. I followed the instructions step for step that are in the article on this website. I downloaded the HP program and the USB Image zip file. I ran the HP flash program and pointed it to the folder where I unzipped the USB Image files to. I then copied all the files over to the USB memory stick as instructed. When I restart my computer and press F12 to go to the boot menu I have 3 options: SATA hard drive, CD-ROM drive, or USB Device. So I choose USB device and when it reads the USB memory stick all I get is the error "Non-system disk, replace and hit any key" Its like the USB memory is missing some system files or it doesnt have the master boot record or something. Somebody please HELP!!! I want to flash the bios in a new video card and I have to boot to DOS and I dont have a floppy drive and I have Win XP so a USB boot is probably the best option I have.

  3. OS restore image?

I intended to make use of my 3rd HDD with a restore image - from my experience using similar setups with retail systems, it's a lot easier; move all important files you want to save, do a restore (which typically does a quick format of the HDD), boots up and your ready to roll again.

I'll look into it this week; I at least now have a good starting point. Thanks, y'all! *Toast :toast:

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.
